Antur Stiniog is a full-on downhill centre with uplift. The set up is a minibus uplift service with spaced trailers to protect your bike. Also, the tracks are built to cover those just getting into Downhill through to the hardcore advanced rider.

Plug and Feathers (Green)

  • The beginner trail - 2km of flowing beautiful single track

Shaft (Blue)

  • Track with a series of berms and twists that take you the way down back to the pickup point

Jymapr aka Jumper (Blue)

  • A smoother entry-level Blue run and blue grade trail aimed at the novice Dh rider. You will find flowing turns and singletrack. Less steep and longer than the other tracks. F2 sections before giving you the option to join the green or a red at the mid-way point. Fun for all levels also and can be ridden on a trail bike.

Wildcart (Red)

  • The Wildcart DH, Freeride run is steep with berms, rocks, step downs and jumps. It flows, is fast and is said to be rideable on a 6-inch travel bike.

Scrubadub (Red)

  • A track with berms and jumps and enters into Wildcat at a fast speed.

Drafft (Red)

  • The Drafft Red DH / Freeride has a steep roll in through the opening berms, followed by corners, berms, jumps and step downs. Again rideable on a 5-6 inch travel bike. Slightly less technical than the Wild Cart above as all features are rollable.

Detonator (Red)

  • A more natural unsurfaced trail with plenty of ‘airtime’

Meehhh Line (Red)

  • This is the main jump line with 30+ jumps (all rollable)

Y Du aka The Black (Black)

  • The Y DU black downhill run is fast and is peppered with gnarly steep rock sections throughout. The trail is also littered with jumps, berms and is very steep. This is the most technical track on offer here.

Black Powder (Black)

  • Black Powder (black) downhill run DH run shares the top 50m of Y DU but then goes down around the other side of the hill. Again rock sections and jumps define this trail.

Bendy-G (Black)

  • 400 metres with 20 turns (hence the name). Built to offer riders a dirt track. Very twisty it branches off Black Powder from the bottom bridge

Re-Powder (Black)

  • Branches off Black Powder and offers a burlier option with a committing rock drop.

Field Jumps (Black)

  • These are the biggest jumps on site take you back to the pick- up point.

Pump Track

  • Jump circuit located near the car park.

Other Stuff

  • You can check out the Facebook group here
  • Antur Stiniog is based in an old slate quarry and is run as a social enterprise.
  • Amongst the activities here are mountain biking (of course), walking, climbing, fishing, caving, paddling and Velorail

Antur Stiniog

I have nothing but good stuff to say about Antur Stiniog! The first time I went I was on my own on a midweek day. The welcome I got from reception to the girls in the cafe was amazing, made me feel so much more at ease. The trails are awesome, just awesome! I started off on the blue, made my way up to the red and bits of black. There are routes in the trails to add in and take out bits for variety and your level of competence and confidence. The uplift service was just excellent, I started at 10am, first lift and got totally stuck in, did 10 lifts through the day, when it was lunch time, I made the most of the really cool little jump track. As a female, on my own, and being initially a bit intimidated, I needn't have worried. I ended up having a truly fantastic day, from the other riders, the uplift driver and last but by no means the least to all the staff were all so friendly and such a laugh! I have had absolutely no qualms recommending the place, going back, and even on my own again! All in all totally fantastic, have since been twice more and looking forward to going again soon!

What do you like?

Lots of stuff to sharpen and increase your skills. I sessioned on the blue for the morning, then went on to the red and black as I felt more confident and capable. The uplift service is really frequent, you are never stood long waiting. When the uplift stops for lunch, there is a great jump track right next to the cafe to play on till uplifts start again. The cafe is just brilliant, excellent food and the staff are just ace! There is a bike wash and showers there so you can scrub up before you go home, bonus. Loads of parking.

What could be improved?

The only downside can be the weather but that is a minor point and the center has no control over that. Even on a bad day I have ridden there and long as you are dressed and ready for it being a bit cooler or wet, it's all good. The staff ride the trails themselves so can give an honest opinion of conditions and how to ride them.

Fun, fun, fun and more fun!

A brilliant addition to the N.Wales mtb scene. Super efficient and friendly uplift and 4 fab trails to enjoy.. I am local to Antur Stiniog so visit quite regularly so I can assure people that it is consistently excellent and friendly and there is plenty to challenge all levels of rider. I would love to see the café improve in the future though!

What do you like?

Uplift, friendliness of drivers and all staff and the trails of course.

What could be improved?

Limited menu and not good coffee and cakes in café.

Yes

Antur Stiniog

Since Antur Stiniog located in North Wales in the small town of Blaenau Ffestiniog has opened, it has already had a huge effect on biking in North Wales. It's popularity continues to grow as do the happy riders! Weather you have a hardtail or a fully blown full suspension downhill bike there's something for everyone

What do you like?

The first thing I should point out is that I've personally rode here 5 times since it's opened. I was amazed at how varied the trails are at Antur Stiniog . It's main focus is Downhill MTB, so there are no enduro or XC loops you can do at the moment (although rumors are a loop is going to get built at sompoint). There are 4 trails, each has their own special vibe to it. The first is called "drafft" it's been graded as a blue run. Its a great trail to give the less experienced riders or beginners a taste of what it's all about. Its a well built and maintained trail due to Meirion Black doing an outstanding job as always. There are a couple of rocks for riders so get the hang of the hard packed terrain and berms. The second trail is called "wild cart" and is graded a red run. This is slightly more challenging than the blue run however there is no feature on the trail that could accidentally make you have a Red Bull Rampage sort of moment! Similar to the blue run, it keeps its flow well and has plenty of fun berms to catch you as you carry speed. There are more rocks than the blue run, and is a very good trail once you've progressed to start riding. Black Powder is the third run, It's graded a black run ironically. The two black runs start next to each other on a separate part of the mountain. This trail is personally my favorite out of them all because of the throbbing legs and numb arms you get once you've completed a run. There are plenty of rocks on this trail, and some awesome jumps for you to get sideways on! Every part of the trail links up well and the rock gardens that are littered down the course are so fun to ride. There are a couple of places you can pull in if your arm pump gets overwhelming, and there is always an amazing photographer that takes professional photographs for you to prove to your mates you survived! An average run would take you 3 minuets to complete if you are an experienced rider. The final of the four trails is the "Double Black". This is also graded a black run. This is also a very fun trail like the Black Powder. It is roughly the same sort of terrain as Black Powder, its just a different gradient. It's steeper and once you're 1 minuet in there is no escaping the brutal slabs of stone and rock boulders! Even though it's littered with rock the trail still flows and keeps you on your toes. The bottom section has the infamous rock drop, a sheer drop that only experienced riders should hit. Everything is rollable so if you're not feeling up to it you can just ride round it. It all links up to a superb line of jumps that are perfectly built. It's a shorter trail than Black Powder but more challenging and definitely more wild! Recently, a new center has been opened. It has a small Bike Shop for all the tubes and tires you may need, along with a jet wash, caffe, showers (£1 for 8 minuets!) and an awesome balcony for you to bask in the sun on a hot day! The uplift service is outstanding with a 10 minuet turnaround if you're pinning it down a trail. The bikes are carried in a Burgtech trailer which is a very safe and easy way to uplift the bikes. The drivers are very friendly and encourage you to speak Welsh which in my opinion is a great way to develop you're language skills also! There is also a pump track which is a really good thing to get your skills up if you're not so confident on jumps. Great fun to session whilst the hard working uplift drivers are busy chowing down their food.

What could be improved?

The only downside about Antur Stiniog is the fact you have to bring about 4 tubes with you every time due to the amount of rocks your bike has to endure in a full day, And the fact you have to buy a pair of new wheels ever couple of visits if you don't like buckled wheels!
