Description

Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trail Centre is in the Cairngorms National Park. There are blue, red, and black trails, an orange freeride line, a short Mini Downhill enduro-style track, a pro-XL jump line, a cafe, a pump track and a skills area. There is also a network of natural off-piste trails.

Like this?

Glenlivet Blue

  • Glenlivet Blue is a 9km blue grade route suitable for all the family but exciting to ride with its twists and turns and great flow. The Blue is 'swoopy', sort of like a bobsleigh run-stroke roller coaster ride. But it is blue so no deliberate jumps on it, however, if you try hard and you know the trail there are jump opportunities to be had. It's pretty rad for a blue.

Glenlivet Red

  • Glenlivet Red is a 22K red-grade route with black-grade technical features to keep the expert mountain biker entertained all year long! Glenlivet Red climbs to the summit of Carn Daimh, offering breathtaking views of the Cairngorms before plunging into the Glenlivet descent; 6.5K of single track downhill packed with black grade features and jumps. the red is tight and twisty, described as sort of 'Welsh' in places (think narrow full bench cut on a steep side slope).

Glenlivet Orange

  • The Orange freeride line is 1km long and full of jumps and berms.

Mini DH

  • Mini DH starts just at the top end of the car park and is just under 1km. It has muddy sections, roots, large drop-offs (can ride around), jumps and steep sections.
  • For 2025 there will be a top section for Mini DH, starting next to Keiran’s line. It will be a blend of machine-built, and hand-dug trail sections to give as natural a feel as possible, while at the same time constructed to stand up to the volume of riders expected to use it. This style of construction tries to minimise the impact on the environment and ensure the trail rides differently in the wet compared to dry conditions, with some roots and mud still evident.

Glendura - Black

  • This hand-built track kicks just above the top of the Red and joins the red lower down after a mix of fast open hillside, tech, loam and woods.

Kieran’s line - Pro

      • Glenlivet’s XL jump trail is called ‘Kieran’s line’. It is named in memory of Keiran Mckandie @keiranslegacysavinglives. It is a pro-difficult jump line to challenge and push your progression.

Pump Track / Skills Area

      • A 75-metre progressive pump track.

Glenlivet Hand-Cut Natural Trails

      • A few natural trails like the Grey Area, Steep Spice and the Diamh Hard, Glenduro and Mini DH dotted around.

Facilities

      • A friendly welcome awaits at the Bike Glenlivet Centre which has all the facilities to meet your needs
      • The Coffee Still cafe is ready to refuel you after your ride with a selection of hot snacks and delicious home baking.
      • Car Park / Cafe / Toilets (open 24hrs) / Baby changing / Bike hire / Bike wash / Information

Natural Trails

      • There are many miles of epic natural trail riding available within the Glenlivet Estate, a free estate map is available locally and on the estate website to help plan your route.

Clubs and Groups

      • Moray Mountain Bike Club is based locally

Other Stuff

      • The project was created by The Crown Estate, owners of Glenlivet Estate, with assistance from the European Development Fund, Cairngorms National Park Authority and Moray Council
      • The trails opened in November 2013
      • Russell Burton carried out the initial feasibility study in 2009 with Paul Masson at 'Cycletherapy' doing the build.
      • Funding consists of
        • Car park money, all of which is ring-fenced for trail maintenance and development. They charge for a day’s parking, with the trails and toilet facilities free to use.
        • Grant funding; local windfarm etc
        • Contribution from Crown Estate Scotland which they lease the land.
        • Contribution from their own company: Bike Glenlivet Ltd.

Glenlivet

Excellent trail centre and a decent length too. If fast flowing single track is your thing then you will love Glenlivet, almost from the off it is fun on the Blue then after the climb up to the top of the Red it really kicks off with a long flowing descent with some nice features to keep you on you toes. The trail builders need to be congratulated on a good job. The cafe had excellent cakes and were very friendly.

What do you like?

Fast flowing single track. Decent length Fantastic views Good Cafe

What could be improved?

A little remote but that has it's appeal too.

Glenlivet

There are not much trails in Scotland that offer Flow Factor that Glenlivet does especially on the First Blue Descent and The Red. I can only think of some of the trails in Glentress and potentially the Highland Wildcat trails giving me a similar feeling. These trails offer something for everyone.

What do you like?

- Offers something for all levels of Mountain Biker with the addition of the new pump track. - Blue Descent is fantastic at the start - Long Climb to the top will challenge all levels of a rider. - Great views at the Viewpoint and top of the red. - Cafe on site offers a nice range of food, selling items such as gloves, tubes etc always handy and useful.

What could be improved?

- Access Road - Long climb to the Top of the Red may put riders off. - Black Features are limited but this is a Trail Centre and not an Enduro run. - Car Park Charging - However costs need to be recouped and will help sustain and develop the trails as opposed to other centres in the area.

Glenlivet

Fast, great flow and overall good fun. I really don't know why people are moaning about the climb as it is really not hard at all. In fact the start in particular is one of the easiest and best of the bulk of mtb trail centres that I have ridden. Views from the top are superb and the descent is lovely and flowy. It you like techy and lots of jumps this isn't for you but you can use momentum brilliantly on this trail. All in all a great addition to the Highland trail scene.

What do you like?

- good cafe, relaxed feel to the trails, great views, nice mixed woodland, varied wildlife, great for a wide range of ages, walks on site for those not mtbing, good facebook page.

What could be improved?

- being really picky it could use a little more variety but there are red/black choices on most features. If you like techy after more techy this probably isn't for you.

What do you like?

Fast, flowing and great fun. Cafe has great coffee and excellent food and amazing cakes. Friendly Staff. Blue trail is fun on a stick. Red trail has a long climb but view from the top is worth the effort and the descent is so fast and flowing. Loved it.

What could be improved?

Not overly technical so not for everyone but as an XC trail it is fantastic and suited me down to the ground.

Glenlivet MTB Trails Centre

I love it, as it's Fast, Flowy and Fun. The 3F's just how I like it. The huge descent in my view is worth the slow climb. Jumps on the hillside are then followed by a rock garden (The Gully Plunge) and a series of jumps near the end (The Double Grinder) these features spices up the trail and makes sure you keep your concentration. The blue trail which you go out on to access the red, is a real roller coaster ride. The second half of the blue on which you return on after the red descent is a mixture of a short climb followed by a longer decent back to the hub. All in all, Glenlivet is an outstanding new Trail Centre which is well worth a visit.

What do you like?

-One long 6km plus decent that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. -Outstanding views. -Nice range of TTF's (Technical Trail Features). -Lovely Cafe which serves a brilliant range of food from soup to burgers. -Bike hire -Cafe has suitable spares eg. (tyres, inner-tubes, lubricant, multitools, pumps) -Up to date Facebook page which tells you if there is snow on the trails and if the hub is open. (This is Scotland and the trails go 500m+) -Great for all the family since there is a blue trail to suit all.

What could be improved?

-Relatively long climb -Trails could be muddy/wet if there has been a prolonged wet season. -If you like trails to be full on, one challenge after the other, this isn't for you; it really is an all polished up MTB Trails Centre

Worth the trip if you're fit enough for the climbing. Some interesting obstacles on the red and fast and flowing - confidence inspiring.

What do you like?

Top loop (from the summit) is fast and flowing and good fun. Take the shortcut back through the forest just after Gully leap and you can make a circuit out of the top end. Lots of climbing here so make sure you're up for that. Trail conditions safe mostly excellent, which is to be expected of a brand new centre. Especially liked that the red had plenty of black options on it.

What could be improved?

Could feel like a lot of climbing with not enough reward for some people on this. Some of the climbs are especially punishing due to extremely sticky mud that feels like treacle on the tyres. Really depends what you are used to. Has a free bike wash but it needs to be better quality and have something to stand the bike on or against.
