Dumyat mountain bike trails are on the western edge of the Ochil Hill range in Stirling. Dumyat Hill is 1373ft  (418m) in height with great views so it is popular with walkers, tourists, and mountain bikers.

Dumyat Trails

  • For mountain bikers, Dumyat has the best of pure gnarly natural trail riding.  The terrain gets pretty steep, technical and rocky in places so it is not recommended for beginners. Once you reach the top of Dumyat you pretty much return the way you came.  You can get up and down in around 2 to 3 hours.
  • In addition to the nature trails though there is some man-made features close by. Basically, at the bottom of the Dumyat Hill on your return, you can easily link off to the neighboring Bridge of Allan woods behind Stirling university. Here you will find dirt jumps, drops and a number of technical obstacles.
  • Close by is Ben A'an which is a small hill by Loch Katerine. Here you can find some rocky exposed riding, big rock chutes and drops.
  • Popular trails include Witches Craig descent, Burnwarroch and Dumyat Main Path

A good introduction to riding the hills around Stirling. A Week up in Stirling meant that I couldnt ignore the presence of Dumyat above me. I quick search showed that it was a popular ride with local MTB'ers. So one fine evening, I drove up to the car park and unloaded my bike and aimed for the top. The rocky nature of the trail meant that I was soon pushing up the path. Once the beacon is reached, a few minutes to catch my breath and admire the view out over the river Forth and then the descent! Quite technical negotiating the rocks through the low sunlight meant my sight was fixed firmly a few feet ahead of my wheel to ensure I wasn't spat over the bars or slide of the trail in some of the narrower points. All too soon I was back at the road. options from here would include taking to the woods back to the university, but as the light was fading and my car was up here, I had to drive back down. A good introduction to the hills of Scotland for someone more used to the chalk and flint of the South Downs.I'd spend more time and try out the woodland trails if I had more time.

What do you like?

A good test of technical trail riding and negotiating rocky trails. Lovely views.

What could be improved?

it's an uphill push for most of the climb.

Dumyat ridge

My first ride in Scotland, but I will definitely be back for more!

What do you like?

Great views on the way up. Had to hike a bike for a bit, as rocky route made for a tricky ascent,as well as the way down!

Riding Dumyat has got me itching to venture further north into the mountains to ride but Dumyat itself is always a good ride with a great decent right from the wide open top to a twisty often tight decent through Mine Woods.

What do you like?

Great place to get a taster of real natural trail riding. Great view over the Stirling area from the top! Plenty of technical spots on the ups and the downs Fast and flowy

What could be improved?

Sharing the paths with walkers so you have to careful!

Dumyat, a gem of a natural ride!

This is a route for a confident rider as it can be techy in places and pick a day after a few days without rain to avoid the bogs! Be prepared for a hike-a-bike in places! The loop can be extended by a play in mine woods or this makes a great short loop on its own from the University into the Bridge of Allan

What do you like?

Great once the weather clears up Dumyat is an excellent hike a bike offering a true taste of mountain biking but not far away from civilisation. The tracks is easy to follow and has a mix of rock and mud and offers superb views.

What could be improved?

Gets very muddy come the winter!
