Description

The Callendar Estate Mountain Bike Trails, including Greenrig Bike Park, are located just outside Falkirk and are owned by the Callendar Estate. The site offers four trails, each named after the woodland they pass through. The trail network includes blue and red graded climbs and descents, a red jump trail, and a beginner skills areaThe trails feature Freestyle Velo wooden elements, adding variety and challenge. The range spans from a family-friendly green loop to a more technically demanding red route with optional orange (expert) features. Greenrig Bike Park, also on the estate, provides additional jumps and features for more advanced riders.

Canada Trail (Green)

  • This is a green trail suitable for novice mountain bikers. The trail twists and turns through Canada Wood and also offers a short Blue Grade boardwalk section for those who are looking for more of a challenge. Overall the trail is 4.1km long and should take about 30 minutes to complete.

Craigieburn Trail (Blue)

  • This blue graded trail is ideal for those who have tried the Canada Trail and are looking for more of a challenge. This trail offers a few gentle hills and some twisting descents. The trail is 3.4km long and should last around 30 minutes.

Kilbean Trail (Blue with Red Sections & optional Orange)

  • This trail offers a mixture of both blue and red sections so is an ideal warm-up trail for those who are hoping to ride the full red Auchengean Trail. Riders can also exit from the trail and take the fire road track down towards the Auchengean trail if they are not finding it challenging enough. The trail is 3.3km long and takes 30 minutes to complete..

Auchengean Trail (Red)

  • This Auchengean trail is graded red. It is usually ridden as an extension to the Craigieburn Trail but riders can connect via the Kilbean Trail. The trail itself is full of both strenuous climbs and rewarding descents that should keep the rider entertained. Ridden as an extension to the Craigieburn trail it is 7.5km long and takes around 45 minutes. The trail includes an opt-in orange route with obligatory gap jumps as below

Jack's Track (Orange)

  • Jack's Track is a new Freeride section of trail. It is for highly skilled riders with advanced riding skills only. You will find skinnies, berms and compulsory gaps jumps and large drops with no chicken run.

Greenrig Bike Park

  • The Bike Park has a pump trail, a technical rock trail, two jump lines, one featuring a mellow wallride and a beginners area with some basic features to try.

Great for beginners

We started from the Greenrig Car Park which is free. This is where the Canada Wood Kitchen and Bar is and Greenrig Cycles Bike Hire. The restaurant seems fine with people using their toilets (beware if you want food, it gets quite busy and if raining not great to sit outside!). We did the green and blue routes (Canada Trail and Craigieburn). I'm pretty new to mountain biking and having had a few confidence knocking rides these were both great wee trails for building the confidence again. Actually felt more comfortable on the Blue Craigieburn as it was such a smooth and well maintained trail. Difficulty level definitely more akin to the Green at Glentress, though with less climbing. Didn't try the skills park but it looks really nice.

What do you like?

Free car park Toilets in the restaurant Both green and blue trail are suitable for beginners. Blue is more gentle corners but no obstacles and nothing steep apart from one slightly steep bit which was fine. Easy to do the trails as many times as you want if you want to improve your skills.

What could be improved?

Routes are short, but as they looped back to the car park it was really easy to keep going around as many times as you want. Grass is starting to get tall in places so even though the trail is fine and clear, at times it was difficult to see which way the path was going so as a beginner hard to anticipate a few corners, but just kept it slow. Some arrows on bits of the blue trail ended up being a bit confusing but we still found our way (at the bit where you can extend to the red trail, go up the man made path to the right, not the natural path to the left. There is a fork on the path and you can go either way. Left is a straight up and around, right is a bit more twisty and fun going up). The information point in the car park is missing it's information sign at the moment.

callender estate red and blue

only found this place on a recent visit to the falkirk canal wheel. sppotted bike trails on a sign and decided to find them as we had the bikes in the van. cycled up the canal and some fire road from there to the skills loop at the greenrig car park where the blue trail starts. skills loop was basic but had a small jump line which we did a couple of runs down. the blue was standard, good singletrack which you could get your speed up on. that linked into the red which was again pretty standard. nothing that i would class as red route but a few features and tougher options where scattered around. was a fun ride alltogether.

What do you like?

fun little trails can do serious miles when link up with local routes

What could be improved?

red is more like blue
