Description

Wakerley Woods mountain bike trails can be found in Wakerley Great Wood near Corby in Northamptonshire. There is a blue trail here and nearby in Fineshade Wood (about 1.5 miles apart) there is a green family friendly trail with blue sections. There is also off-piste riding and bridleways to ride in the area.

Scar Tree Trail (Blue)

  • The Scar Tree trail is a 4.8 km short blue trail. It is on surfaced tracks and starts and ends at the car park.

Family cycle trail (Green)

  • This is an 8 km family circular loop (with some optional blue section) in Finehsade Wood.

Off-Piste

  • There is a selection of off-piste trails in the area that are unsanctioned. Mostly tight, twisty, rooty, wooded singletrack.

Other Stuff

  • The Wakerley Wheelers ride these woods and the surrounding area.
  • Car parks at both sides of the woods.

Local trails

Decent single track with a few drop offs but limited elevation.

What do you like?

Great variety of rooty single track, maintained by a local group.a few jumps and drops.

What could be improved?

Not much elevation but what is there is used well.

Ride outs

Nice to ride in a group

What do you like?

Our leatherheadzmtb group love riding over at Wakerley and fineshades woods, the trails are great and the facilities are just right. Love it ???

What could be improved?

None really We are lucky to have such fine riding places Especially with the over development of our towns and cities. Great woods for riding are had to find.

Good fun and all weather!

I used to ride the red route here when it was first built and it was great, (but a bit short) but no maintenance and poor weather killed it. So now there's the armoured blue route. Great all-weather route and fun, and good for beginners. Bit short, of course. Add in alap around FIneshade and it's a fun ride, especially in the winter. Off-piste stuff gets muddy.

What do you like?

All weather, proper car park, good fun.

What could be improved?

Too short!

Wakerley and Fineshade

good for a bit of fun all year round.

What do you like?

Wakerley scar tree trail is a great little trail to get your legs going with some tight and twisty berms and a few fast sections. Plenty of stuff to explore off the laid trail. Fineshade is great for adding a few miles to your ride and the short skill sections are a bit of fun. Look for the gaps in the trees near the old railway banking for unofficial trails. The bike shop is open at weekends and I've found them helpful on a couple of occasions and the cafe is good for hot drinks and light snacks. If you have a caravan there is a site next to the top lodge cafe and car park.

What could be improved?

the trails have a little too much lime stone which takes away some of the natural rooted terrain challenge and is a bit short(though there are plenty of unofficial trails to explore). A few more signs near the openings of the sections warning walkers of the mtb trail might discourage walkers and their dogs being a danger to riders and themselves.

Good for young learners

Great place to take you small kids as an exciting intro to MTB, they should be addicted by the time they leave. Over the road at Fineshade the family trail is ok but the last section is an uphill crawl that 20" wheels will not appreciate unless you stop halfway at the playground to distract them

What do you like?

Easy access and well built for winter training use. Caravan park in Fineshade if you want to stay over and bike shop there too.

What could be improved?

Too short with such a big wood at your finger tips. Off piste needs a bit of signing maybe.

fun little blue route

the scartree trail is about 3 miles long, so you can do a few laps round here pretty quickly, great to work on your fitness. 1 short climb a couple of short descents, lots of berms, a couple of rocks. some off piste bits, and a couple of opportunities to get some speed up. worth checking out if you are local or driving nearby. there is a cafe at the nearby fineshade woods on the opposite side if the a43 which is a 5 minute ride from the wakerley car park. theres a small green route and some more off piste stuff at fineshade as well.

all weather trail pretty fun berms

What could be improved?

red route has been scrapped short
