Viking Trail - Red Graded

  • Winding through Tunstall Forest the Viking Trail is known to be fast, narrow, and flowing with berms and some short climbs. You can find pits with steep descents alongside the waymarked route. There is also a shortcut option. No real facilities so come prepared.
  • Please don't ride in prolonged wet conditions as it massively damages the trail beyond the norm. It is not built to be all-weather. It gets boggy so for your own benefit and that of the environment and trail longevity please avoid prolonged wet conditions.

Other Trails

  • The current status isn’t known but within a couple of miles, Sudbourne Dirt Jumps and freeride trails would have been found

Other Stuff

  • The Viking Trail begins from Sandgalls car park in the north of the forest
  • Originally a motorcycle enduro spot (but no longer)
  • It is managed by the Tunstall and Rendlesham Off-road Group (TROG) in partnership with the Forestry Commission
  • TROG is committed to “retain what is the ‘essence of Tunstall’, with a natural feel to the trails and minimum use of imported material”. The ongoing development makes use of the historic motorcycle enduro race tracks in some places and completely new trails built entirely by hand.
  • TROG ensures all work has a  low environmental impact retains a naturalistic ‘wild’ feel of the forest. Subsequently, no heavy machinery is used in the forest.
