Description

Twisted Oaks Bike Park & Trails, Brightwell Country Park, Suffolk (East Anglia). A progressive 42-acre site built by local riders with trails for all levels. The park includes blue and red XC loops, multiple woodland lines, a dual slalom track, downhill runs, a national-level 4X track, a large skills area, jump lines (including a mulch zone), and an active community focus. Open to members and non-members (book and pay online).

Like this?

Red XC Trail

Approx. 6.4 km with ~400 ft elevation gain. Mix of fun downhill sections, technical singletrack, drops, pits, jumps, and woodwork (with opt-outs). Physically testing but enjoyable; take it mellow or go full gas for a quick lap.

Blue XC Trail

Approx. 1.4 km using easier sections of the red. Wide, welcoming, and a good step-up for newer riders or families.

Planning permission to extend the XC was approved in early 2023.

The Red Woods (blue & red lines)

Multiple mix-and-match lines through mature pine, starting from a single point before splitting by difficulty. Expect flowing berms, rollers, and technical sections. Ideal for sessioning.

Fairground (new in 2025)

Located within The Red Woods, Fairground is a machine-built jump line featuring smooth rollers, tabletops, and mellow senders with slightly steeper lips. Designed to offer more airtime at manageable speeds, it’s ideal for progressing jump technique and dialling in flow. Suits confident intermediates through advanced riders.

Skills Area

Progressive drops, gap jumps, tabletops, and doubles on open meadowland — start small and scale up.

Dual Slalom

Feature-packed, fully rollable race track. Double or triple features depending on ability — built for head-to-head fun.

Four Cross (4X)

Side-by-side racing on a dedicated track for four riders. National-level layout used in the NPS series.

Mulch Zone – Freeride Area

Weatherproof mulch landing zone with wooden kickers (small/medium/large). The large kicker is ~10 ft, medium ~8 ft. Softer landings for learning and trying new tricks.

The Big Field

Three flow lines plus the 4X track at the top of the site:

  • Jake & Elwood (blue): flowing berms and tabletops, suitable for most riders; crosses the pro line via a wooden bridge.
  • 23 Jump Street (red): more jump-oriented with steeper tabletops, step-ups and step-downs; finishes with two larger kickers (with an avoidable roller table between).
  • The Full Monty (black/pro): large, unavoidable gap jumps and drops; expert riders only.
  • 4X Track: national-level four-cross track with sweeping berms and fast features.

Under Construction & Future Plans

  • Black Forest (red & black): steeper terrain with bigger lines, drops, gaps, skinnies, and slopestyle features as a technical step-up from the Red Woods.
  • New jump lines (blue/red/black): ~180 m each with twisty layouts, wooden features, huge berms, and bigger jumps to build confidence and ability.
  • Drop lines section: three progressive lines for practising drops from beginner to expert sizes.

Events and Community

Twisted Oaks is community-driven with an inclusive vibe. Built and run by local riders, with a focus on progression, sustainability, and enhancing on-site habitats. The park is off-grid with plans for on-site power generation.

Facilities

  • Twisted Spokes Café: by the lower jump park; open Wed–Sun in school holidays and Fri–Sun outside holidays; hot and cold food and drink.
  • Dialled Cycle Works: at the top car park with check-in inside; bike sales, clothing, protection, parts, and workshop; soft drinks and snacks.
  • Bike hire: full- and half-day options via Dialled Cycle Works.
  • Drinking water: on tap opposite the shop.
  • Glamping: new site with luxury bell tents in a quiet spot by the stream.
  • Toilets: opposite the jump park by the café.

Good for Suffolk but Stunted

Helped local scene massively, owners are very friendly, a great place to have a quick play around at the weekend with some mates. There's potential for it to become a great place, but it's not there yet.

What do you like?

Most of the jumps are pretty well built, the venue offers a great place to get beginners into learning bike skills without the danger of steep terrain. Bike shop is great, lovely people at the cafe as well. Community is decent, most riders will always be happy to help if needed. Every year Southern Enduro holds a race at the venue (in some cases improving the tracks) which is brilliant as it's laidback and good fun. Duel slalom is very well built and will give you a good laugh, some of the dirt jump lines run very well. Always something new in the works (however...)

What could be improved?

Foreword: I love this place and what it has done for the community - offering us a legal area to ride our bikes with mates. However it does have its flaws which seem to be pushed to the side. Access road is in some places, worse than the uplift track at Dyfi. Lack of organisation between some dig crews mean new trails take ages to develop, some who dig the jumps can't actually ride jumps properly; many jump lines are dangerous due to poor trail speed management and transitions – The dirt jump area really needs some love, too many lines (aimed at beginners) which seem to have never been test ridden, if they were then they would realise how dangerous the jumps are. Older tracks lack maintenance and general flow and offer no progression to more advanced riders, some issues still present since the first year of opening. The red wood tracks need a total revamp as well as the trail blocked off due to badgers needing to be addressed STILL.
