Description

Rogate Downhill Bike Park is an MTB, Downhill, and Freeride site in Rogate near Liss, Hampshire. It has all grading levels for all abilities, so progressive in nature. The all-weather terrain makes it pretty much all-year riding. It is part of the B1KE Bike Park network which includes Wind Hill, S4P, and Tidworth Freeride.

The DH Trails

  • The tracks are in two sections, separated by a fire road. There are ten lines on the upper site and ten lines on the lower site. Each has a different combination of drops, berms, rocks, roots and jumps with progressive levels for all abilities. The terrain is quite sandy and so dries fast.
  • In the last few years there has been a revamp of the hill, adding two top to bottom flow trails and adding more tech trails overall.
  • For the more advanced riders there are big road gaps, drops, steep technical runs and large doubles.
  • The Lozenge grading used in addition to and withing the trail grades is about the Technical Trail Features (TTF’s) that the trail includes. This can be drops, steep chutes, jumps (tables or gap jumps) road-gaps and berms.
  • A single lozenge denotes small features and indicates a more technical trail than other more feature-driven lines. Two lozenge trails will contain technical trail features of a medium to large size.
  • A trail with a two lozenge grade MAY contain features that cannot be rolled (i.e. on a black graded trail) but MAY also have a lesser or rollable option available.
  • Three lozenge trails have large technical trail features. These will be unavoidable and require suitable ability and total commitment.

Upper Site

  • Bottle Rocket - Blue 2 Lozenge
  • Fast, flowy, warm up line.
  • P- Plate - Black 2 Lozenge
  • Jump line with tech, woodwork, and gap jumps.
  • L-Plate - Red 2 Lozenge
  • Progressive technical trail. Line choices plus free-flowing sections with turns and root steps.
  • Risk Assessment - Red 1 Lozenge
  • Stepping stone to the more technical terrain available across the ‘Red’ graded trails; introducing tighter turns, roots and rocks.
  • Black Tooth - Black 1 Lozenge
  • Loose, rolling rocks and off-camber sections.
  • Bikini Top - Red 1 Lozenge
  • Tight hairpins, loose gulleys, steps, drops and cambers.
  • Enter Sandman - Black 1 Lozenge
  • Steep chutes and sandy turns with rock features.
  • Far Beyond Ridden - Black 2 Lozenge
  • Tech trail! Drops in heavy and chutes its way down the hill in a loose and twisty fashion.
  • Tunnel Vision - Black 2 Lozenge
  • Steep, narrow and testing.
  • S&M - black 3 Lozenge
  • Completed in collaboration with DMR Bikes. Gaps, step-downs, camber and steeps.

Lower Site

  • Bottle Rocket - Blue 2 Lozenge
  • Roll or send the jumps. Left at the end and you can go bigger, or continue straight on and hit a line of small tables.
  • Happy Ending - Red 3 Lozenge
  • The alternative ending for Bottle Rocket is a 30ft tabletop.
  • S-Berms - Blue 1 Lozenge
  • Includes a 180 return-berm at the end. Perfect for practicing. (Accessed via the Bottle Rocket session point).
  • Triple R Rated - Black 3 Lozenge
  • Fast with jumps.
  • Main Line - Red 2 Lozenge
  • Lots of options. Tables, drops, on-offs and gaps.
  • Bikini Bottom - Red 2 Lozenge
  • Lots of variety as you drop into loose, rooty turns, and finishes up with a ski jump, some rollers and a couple of tables.
  • Split Richard - Red 2 Lozenge
  • Twisty, options, motorway section with tech features.
  • Far Beyond Ridden - Black 3 Lozenge
  • Tighter than top section. Techy corners filled with bulging roots, loose dust and stones; finishing with a ditch gap and into the final 6 pack.
  • Tunnel Vision - Black 2 Lozenge
  • You have to work for your flow. Raised skinnies and fallen-tree balance beams.
  • S&M - Black 3 Lozenge
  • The bottom half of S&M has woodwork, techy gaps, woods and line options. In collaboration with DMR Bikes.

Great Friendly DH centre

Had a great couple of hours for the first time at Rogate on the way back from Portsmouth to London. It was mid week and quite early in the day so it was quiet. The few locals around were really helpful and gave great tips. What really surprised me is the day and night before the heavens had opened in biblical style yet it felt really firm and grippy. I started on the one dot and moved onto the two dots of trails mainly on the lower half (did a couple of runs on upper half which is woodier and also fun). Most of the time was on the Main Line with a bit on the DD trails. The Main line is an awesome track as it has drops, jumps, tables and berms and the bigger drops are optional making the line quite progressive. Really fun to session. Fun day and as I pass this place at least four or five times a year I will definitely be back soon.

What do you like?

- Good for all abilities (uses Orange dot) system - Rides really well in the wet. - Friendly local riders - Push up is not too long.

What could be improved?

- No faciliites

Good but theres better

Good but worth the trip to aston hill or somewhere with an uplift, great for a day mucking around on the bikes but wouldnt travel more than 1 hour to get there, but luckily im only 45 mins away but worth checking out if youre just after a chilled ride in a welcoming environment or great for a ride in the wet!

What do you like?

short/easy walk up, a fair few trails, quite regular dig days to keep it running well and runs really well in the wet, a lot of potential building wise, trails are still good fun, made good use of land up there too

What could be improved?

All trails are fairly similar, top half loamy, second half sandy, more wooded up top and a lot more open in the bottom however still wooded, in the dry its just too sandy and hard to ride, not much parking, no toilets or food available.

Rogate Downhill - Great Trails

Rogate is a fantastic downhill spot, the trails are really good, well maintained and there's good variety, with tight, twisty technical dh as well as nice, big easy tables, hips, gaps and lots of drops, the dual slalom track, DD is great too, really fun, I've been to rogate 6 times.

What do you like?

The trails are fun, for a wide range of abilities, they're well maintained, they have regular dig days. The trails are really compact, all close together on one side of the hill, so you don't have to ride for ages between the trails. The trails are well marked out with tape, and loads of signs for walk up paths etc.

What could be improved?

You have to pay £4 online or £6 on the day. Some small sandy sections can get a bit too loose after long dry periods, eg before first table on main line.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Awesome day riding

Went to Rogate for the first time recently and now I can't stop going every weekend! The trails are so fun for all abilities, the push up is really short for the length of the runs, conditions are perfect even after non stop rain, trails are well maintained and marked, all making it one of the best DH spots in south England.

What do you like?

Trails for all ability from simple DD to the challenging Far Beyond Ridden

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
