Description

Farmer Johns MTB Park (FJMTB) is located by Marple Bridge, Stockport in Greater Manchester. It consists of several downhill runs and a dirt jump park.

Like this?

Run by Farmer John and his wife Jill it's famed for its races & events. There is an active community and there are always new developments in the making.

Main DH Track

  • The original and main Downhill track are interspersed with North Shore, drops and rock gardens. The bottom woody section is tight and as you would expect rooty.

Night Race / Burm Track

  • This track is just a short run (nailed in under a minute) and kicks off at the starting at the top of the main field. It is famed for the night race held on it.

Bridge / Hut Jump line

  • This run starts with the Main DH track and then diverts off just before the woods. It goes over a north shore style drop off, then through the meadow via some rock gardens. A bridge then lets the night race track link up to the Main DH midway down the meadow. Then the track splits again crossing either the hut jump or diving into the woods to rejoin the Main DH line.

Mega Steep Variant Line

  • This track is simply described as a very steep track. The clue is in the name.

Root Death Variant Line

  • Very steep, extremely Rooty, very technical line.

Trails / Dirt Park

  • A number of progressive dirt jump lines. Has its own integrated community (see group below). The opening is restricted to dry periods for safety reasons.

Events

  • Farmer Johns Race weekend is iconic.

Other Stuff

  • You can pay on the day or take out annual membership.
  • Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 including Bank Holidays. No need to book, just turn up and get your pass from the cafe or farmhouse. Full face helmets are compulsory.
Strictly no riding without signing in first.
  • There is a bunkhouse for accommodation on site.
  • The MTB Park is on the edge of the Peaks i.e. you are spoilt for amazing technical enduro style riding here.
  • In 2016 Farmer Johns MTB Park took 1st place in the iBikeRide Trail of the Year awards for England (and 2015) and 3rd in the UK rankings overall.

What do you like?

Great trails and lots of fun for my lad. Good facilities and very clean loos( it's a mum thing). Not our first visit and not our last.

What could be improved?

Cafe only open weekends. Would be great if open in the holidays. It was cold in the car!

Best in the (north) West

If you or your family have an interest in Downhill Mountain Biking come along. Try the weekender for fun and frolics and the screamingly funny go-cart race. Keep up the excellent work Farmer John and Farmer Jill you are awesome

What do you like?

I am no mountain biker in fact before 2013 I had never heard of FJMTB Park. Let me tell you now this park has some genuinely sick trails for all abilities. You can ride from £7 for a day pass or be a member for £40 and ride for just £1 how good is that? The VIEWS! man the VIEWS are stunning you really do feel on top of the world plus they have the best cafe with home raised bacon and free range eggs whats not to love? Hosting several races a year and the soon to be famous Farmer John's Race Weekender its the place to be if you wanna ride and make friends.

What could be improved?

They aint non.. well weather can be a factor but there is nowt can be done about nature.. prepare to get muddy in the wet and a bit sun burnt in the summer and you can't go wrong.
