Description

Tirpentwys Trails can be found in Pontypool in South Wales. They consist of 6 hand-carved tracks which are steep with swooping berms, jumps, and drop-offs.  The trails are called: Bob Gnarly, Bob More Gnarly, Grannies Fanny, Do-Able, Dasher, and Gnarliness. This is a volunteer-managed bike park. The trails are unofficial.

Like this?

The Tirpentwys MTB trails are unofficial wild trails and feature steep swooping berms, jumps, drop-offs, and a session area to hone your skills.

Bob More Gnarly - Black

  • Bob More Gnarly has a natural feel for a downhill run and features lots of roots and off-camber sections. This trail has drop-offs up to 5ft in height and steep natural sections.

Do-Able - Black+

  • Do-Able is a natural, very rooty, steep-tech trail with natural features and technical drops.

Dasher - Black

  • Dasher is a natural steep-tech downhill run with lots of roots, tight turns, and plenty of slop.

Gnarlyness- Black

  • Gnarlyness is gnarly and features a large drop at the start of the trail (as a qualifier). It features steep swooping berms, tight wooded sections step on/offs, and gap jumps.

Bob Gnarly -Red/Black

  • Bob Gnarly features big berms with senders into steep chutes. The trail progresses into a series of tabletops and jumps through the woods.

Grannies Fanny - Red

  • Grannies Fanny is a good introduction to the trails. The trail is all rollable and features large steep swooping berms, chutes, and jumps towards the bottom of the trail.

Other Stuff

  • The trails are maintained by a crew of dedicated trail builders determined to continue the work and legacy of fellow builder and founder Ryan Bullimore #RideforRyan

Great trails, even better people

Tirpentwys, or Trip as it's better known is my favourite place to go every week. It's definitely a tougher selection of trails but there are some easier ones to ease yourself into them. It's a great place filled with great people. There aren't any specific facilities, other than the hand made shelter, but that being said the shelter is a perfect place to hang out when you need a rest.

What do you like?

Good trail maintenance, short ride to the top.

What could be improved?

Lack of funding and support from local council. Could do with actual facilities for eating, drinking, using the toilet and a medical area.

Would you recommend?

yes
