Description

Dyfi Bike Park is a 650-acre bike park in the Dyfi Forest, just north of Machynlleth in Wales. It’s a Downhill and Enduro big mountain bike park with eight reds, four single black diamond trails, one double black diamond, and four triple black diamond/pro-line tracks.

Like this?

All handcrafted by Dan Atherton and the Dyfi Diggers. You can book and pay for the uplift via their website. It’s in the same neck of the woods as the Machynlleth & Dyfi Mountain Bike Base right on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park.

Upper Mountain:

50 Hits - Single Black Diamond

  • 50 hits is an advanced Black diamond graded track and is 3,642 metres in length with 400m of elevation overall. The "50 Hits" trail begins along the RAF Low Fly Zone, offering over eight minutes of flowing tabletops, making it ideal for Enduro bikes. The trail features fast rollers leading into a berm-to-berm gap, followed by one of the track's largest hits. Then, riders encounter quick fly-offs and a series of berms that launch them into the forest for the jumpps

Race Track - Double Black Diamond

  • As the name suggests this a very fast track. It’s 2,500 metres in length and has 400m of elevation. Fast rocky sections lead into 3 table tops before dropping into tight corners that shoot you into more tight corners. Bermed and rutted, with natural senders and flat out bus stops, this track races down hill at a perfect gradient and it’s easily ridden on a trail bike. The lower section is wild with steep chutes and catch berms.

Slab Track - Triple Black Diamond

  • Warning - This track has obstacles that can’t be rolled and don’t have alternative lines
  • This is an alternative top section to the Race Track. It is 620 metres in length. The riding is extremely technical with tight corners, technical drops, steep chutes and a sixty-foot slab of bedrock to navigate.

Insta360 - Flowstate - Single Black Diamond

  • 400m track built as the name suggests for flow. The top of the track has natural rock features, there is a wallride, flowy singletrack through woods, wooden drops and huge man-made berms. It finishes with a step up.

Original DH - Red

  • The Original DH is one of the most varied and natural feeling of the tracks. Over the 1,772 metres of riding with 300m of elevation to descend. The Original DH trail begins with a technical section featuring rocky, rooty drops and berms, then transitions into a fast and enjoyable ride, culminating in three large table tops that lead to the iconic bridges. Challenge yourself with the Road Gap, ascend the park's largest roundwood timber bridge, then navigate an off-camber traverse before tackling the steep final segment.

Super Swooper - Red

  • The red Super Swooper is as the name implies both super and swoopy. Full of large swooping berms and flowing tabletops and jumps.

Lovey Dyfi- Red

  • Lovey Dyfi is a mellower flowy red track which is 4.4km long, fast and a good introduction to riding at the bike park. It follows the valley at the Western edge of the Park before joining into the bottom section of 50 Hits.

Muddy's Berms - Red

Maintain a controlled speed to smoothly navigate the Muddy Berms. This track, with its successive berms, offers a prime chance to hone your cornering technique. Focus on your approach – shift your weight into the corner early to prepare for the upcoming berms.

Cedar Rapids - Red

  • Descend through the snug berms into Lovey Dyfi's lower section and immerse yourself in the swiftly flowing Cedar Rapids. This trail is ideal for riders aiming to boost their speed from turns or for an invigorating first run of the day. It's one of the park's most relaxed and picturesque spots. Experience some of the park's top flow sections. The Cedar Tree presents two distinct jump lines, divided by a signature central cedar, providing challenges for riders across various skill levels. It's an essential section to ride.

Gully of Doom - Red

  • Constructed in 2016, the Gully of Doom stands as the park's oldest and most intricate trail. It features an optional conclusion for the Original DH, beginning with a substantial left-right berm. This handcrafted segment ranks among the park's most natural and challenging areas. Characterized by its tech nature, this segment lacks jumps but includes a slick rock slab, a rugged rock garden, and sharp corners where precise braking is essential.

Old Trail Line - Single Black Diamond

  • Old Train line allows you to get a feel for the larger, steeper transitions that you will come across on tracks like Oakley. You’ll find moderately sized step-ups, mini tables and hips.

Lower Mountain:

Oakley - Icon Way - Triple Black Diamond

  • 1km jump line. The tracks' BMX roots show in the surfaced finish and tall BMX lip drops. There are hips, bridges and booters.

Fire in the Booth - Triple Black Diamond

  • This track has obstacles that can’t be rolled and don’t have alternative lines. Short, steep and natural. Fire in the Booth is an off-piste track that splits off to the left of El Hippo for a challenging alternative route back to the car park. Start on a fast, steep, and rocky ridge. Then g-out into two big turns, a fast straight, and drop into the steep tech. This hand-built track is all about linking the steep techy turns, and finding lines which will change on every run. Fire in the Booth has loads of off camber bedrock, natural roots and is probably the steepest part of the park.

Helter Skelter - Single Black Diamond

  • The Pro's favourite section tests even the most skilled riders with its off-camber roots, presenting an ideal environment to refine your skills and test your boundaries. A sequence of six steep berms provides a perfect conclusion to your run. With features suitable for pros—roots, rocks, and berms—the track offers a complete experience, culminating at the car park.

El Hippo - Single Black Diamond

  • This is about half the length of the other trails and is full of fast berms, hip-jumps (hence the name), technical rocks and roots and the Chute. There is a bonus section from the 50-Hits jump line at the end.

Turns in the Ferns - (Double Diamond) Red

  • One kilometre, with berms, fades, shark-fins and you can re-join 50 Hits for the bottom section. Double Diamond Red.

Dirty Dishes - Red

  • Above the café lies a short, mellow jump-line, affectionately named by our beloved designer Dora, "because you have to clear the tables." It's an excellent area to hone your speed control; approach with caution, pinpoint your landing to seamlessly transition into the next section, or gain momentum down the slope towards Café Express. Featuring bowls, tables, hips, and dips, it's more compact than most in the park, making it an ideal spot to perfect your whips. Alternatively, you can enjoy a coffee while watching friends show off their skills on this unique end to the 50 hits or the Lower Mountain trails.

Third Degree Berms - Red

  • Red-graded trail on Dyfi’s lower mountain, offers a fast and flowy ride that builds from a mellow start into a sequence of tightly packed berms and rollers. Designed to link seamlessly into Muddy’s Berms, it creates a continuous, toboggan-style run ideal for riders building cornering skills at speed.

Dewalt Freeride Zone (In Planning)

  • The new area will feature a wide range of progressive freeride elements – from jumps and drops to wallrides and flow lines – designed to link together for maximum creativity and progression. With options across different skill levels, the freeride zone aims to be a place where riders can build confidence and push their limits.

Eternal return, I just want to keep going back

Love the trails, at the end of the day I just want to plan when I can return.

What do you like?

The trails are built with flow and lots of features, each time I go i crack a few more and I love the challenge. Despite there being some v techy and big stuff it does not feel testosterone fulled, ego-based or elitist. It feels like its built by people who just love riding bikes and want to share that with others.

What could be improved?

Decent toilets

In winter a more inside section to keep cosy but its do like that the uplift landys are warm in winter.

Some onsite accommodation, cabins or something if you could get permission.

To build some trails closer to where I live please.

Would you recommend?

yes
