Afan Argoed / Glyncorrwg

There is a lot of good riding in the Afan valley now that the New Penhydd and Blue Scar trails are open and with a new section of trail opening in Glyncorrwg called The Blade due to open in the new year it’s really worth a visit. If you fancy a good ride of about 46 km then I can recommend the W2, (Whites Level/ Y Wall) lots of single track guaranteed to put a smile on your face with a café at both ends it’s a must. If you have a young family then you can ride the rookie trail, good fun for all the family.

What do you like?

Lots of trails to ride. Choice of three Cafes. Showers / Toilets at Glyncorrwg and Afan Argoed

What could be improved?

The weather can by off putting some times.

Please take emergency supplies and a light in winter as we did have a breakdown at the top that was not repairable it's z long cold way down, be prepared it's not a walk in the park, this is serious stuff! If your not comfortable then don't do it! Deffo has your cheeks clenching on parts :-)

What do you like?

Well where to begin? The whole place is a grin extravaganza booming with every aspect of xc riding you could wish for, even the crazy adrenaline junkies would love it, has the views and trails to love, it's like the holy grail if bike trails, this has to be on a bikers to do list!!! Epic and wild!! We did W2 aka Y Wal (bits of them all)

What could be improved?

You don't see people for hours and you could be lost and alone easily, trails are everywhere so you'll always find one though, a lot of climbing we did 3000+ feet of it lol

Yes

Y Wal

First time at Afan today and chose to do the Y Wal run I believe it was Rowan Sorrel who made these trails but if it wasn't then whoever did build them is a genius. Although the climbs are very long you are rewarded with singletrack heaven especially the Graveyard and zigzag sections great variety of terrain with a lot of the singletrack taking you through great forest areas all in all a fantastic day and trail which I hope to return to soon.

What do you like?

Decent cafe Very good Bike Shop Cheap Parking

Afan Rides

A great area to ride - my favourites are Y Wal and Whites Level but looking forward to doing Penhydd again after its long closure.

What do you like?

Great trails, even right after rain (not that there's ever any rain in this area...)

What could be improved?

Occasionally the trails are taken over for races and private events with little or no warning on website, at the car park etc.

Would you recommend?

Yes
