the red route might be just 11 miles long but last weekend I rode 43 miles on natural, red and fire road trails. Cracking baked spud and a cake after too. excellent day out!

from the natural trails, graded trails and routes and the older fire road trails that take you way out the back of the forest and into the hills beyond Ae its impossible to get bored at Ae forest. The cafe is great, really good food, great facility with showers if needed and a bike shop on site with the ever helpful and knowledgeable Callum etc
Downhill lines and off piste are where the best trails are at, would recommend advanced riders.
What do you like?
Great place to ride. Large variety of trails from a decent xc red route to a cracking downhill course with loads of optional lines and sections. Excellent off piste/unmarked trails catering for the more enduro style rider, natural, steep and technical. Great facilities, great shop and cafe, highly recommend.
First Time At AE trails and did the red route. First off to do the red route you need a bit of base fitness otherwise might feel a slog, im by no means fit but fit enough. If your after a XC training day with some trails, this couldn't be better. I would say im comfy on red trails, black i keich myself(for reference). Overall a great day out and a bit different from my usual,
of the trail sections
"green granny love" is pretty mild, swooping through woodlands, one big slab i didnt see coming and didnt make it over, will try next time
"The Face" was fun, although bone crunching switch backs(well was for my 100mm hardtail) - want another crack at that
"Bran bash" was fast and fun, simples
"the edge"I think was my favourite, technical enough for me with some berms, small drops winding all the way down, even some roots in there - great fun
"nil desperadum" / top half of "omega man" - was good but tough as i need to get my fitness up to pedal through all of it, but the downs were rocky and great fun to blas through
"omega man lower" good fun but did not do it justice..... might be fun to start here before doing a whole red route!
didnt do shredder but sounds fun for the full downhillers
What do you like?
Something for everyone
not as busy as other 7 stanes trail centres
Good Variety
What could be improved?
....wish Omega man was at the start when im not knackered
not clear on the route for final red descent into omega man(sign saying no riding.... but thats the way)
....... coffee shop was almost as slow as mabie's coffee shop..... my god people how long does a coffee take
Of all the 7 stanes rides, the AE line is 2nd only to the Black route at Kirroughtree. This ride flows from start to finish and has many highlights such as turbine ally and the omega man.Although I'm not a fan of wind turblines they do add some character to the ride.
What do you like?
Nice variety of single track, facilities are excellent and very accessable. Climbs are also good fun.
What could be improved?
Nope, can't think of any. Some black options maybe?
