Description

Bonaly Downhill and Mountain Bike Trails sit on the northern edge of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, on the south-western outskirts of Edinburgh. The area is managed by the City of Edinburgh Council as part of the Pentland Hills Regional Park. Riding here is informal and unsanctioned, with a mix of natural downhill lines on White Hill and extensive cross-country access into the wider Pentlands.

The Trails

  • The downhill area sits on the wooded slopes of White Hill, directly above the car park. Access the bottom of the trails by going through the gate at the top of the car park, turning left, and crossing the burn. The trails are natural and rider-built, with a run from top to bottom taking around one to two minutes. Features include jumps, drops, roots, and steep sections. The area is sometimes referred to locally as The Nibbler.
  • For cross-country riding, Bonaly Country Park is a gateway into the broader Pentland Hills network. The Trailforks region lists a number of singletrack options in the area including Bonaly to Capelaw (red, 959m) and Black Hill. Routes range from short technical hits to multi-hour XC epics linking the reservoirs and hill summits.
  • All trails are unsanctioned. Building work is managed by the local riding community in consultation with the local ranger service. Check the Bonaly Mountain Bike Trails Facebook page for updates, conditions, and trail news.
