Description

Western Park Freeride Trails is a free, volunteer-built BMX and dirt jump park tucked into a corner of Western Park in Leicester, with a BMX circuit, a pump track, and a range of tabletop jump lines including the Mainline six pack. It has been built and maintained by local riders on council land since 2002, and remains a welcoming spot to practice jumps whatever your ability. The wider park itself has a playground, cafe and sports pitches if you are bringing family along for the day.

The Trails

  • The main circuit suits BMX and dirt bikes, with a wide range of tabletop lines. The best known is the Mainline, home to a six pack of doubles, plus assorted berms and drop offs.
  • A pump track sits alongside the jump lines, good for warming up or working on pump and flow before hitting the jumps.
  • The trails are dug and maintained by local volunteers, Western Park Freeriders, who run regular dig days to keep the lines in shape.
  • Best avoided straight after wet weather: the jumps and berms are built from worked soil that softens and breaks down when saturated.

Getting Here

  • Park at Western Park Bike Trails Car Park, Braunstone Town, Leicester, LE3 6SJ. Head into the park past the blue sign board: the trails are up the hill on the left, close to the park boundary with Hinckley Road.
  • The nearest side road is Western Park Road, useful if you are approaching on foot or by bike from elsewhere in the park.
  • Western Park is served by local bus routes along Hinckley Road, and National Cycle Route 6 runs through the park if you are riding in from central Leicester.

Local Organisation

  • The trails are built and maintained by volunteers, Western Park Freeriders, who post trail news and dig day updates on Facebook and Instagram.

Beyond the Trails

  • Western Park is Leicester's biggest park, with a playground, cafe, toilets, picnic areas, a sensory garden, and pitches for football, cricket, baseball and tennis, plus a skate park, so there is plenty to do beyond the jump lines if you are visiting as a family.
