Excellent place to have a good old fashioned XC blast through the woods. The Kitchener trail is more akind to a Blue at other trail centres as it does not have many technical features but it is fast flowing and very fun on a hardtail, reminds me of what most natural trails were like through woods before all the trail centres kicked off in the 90s.

For an all-dayer ride it is easy to combine with a lap of the blue, follow the trail through Sherwood forest (few rolling miles of singletrack just off the main route past the Dog & Duck) up to Clumber for a lap and back down through the forest + join back on to the kitchner trail to finish off back in the car park.

Good Points
Excellent facilities
Easy to get to from most directions
Variety of trails
Miles and miles of singletrack away from the main trails (if you know where to look!)
Can be linked up with route through Sherwood Forest to clumber park and back for 40 mile XC run completely off road
Bad Points
Blue closer to a green
Red closer to a blue
Not much elevation or many technical sections

got a little lost at the start trying to find the beginning of the red route, but after a lap of the car park it was blatantly obvious. from the go i have to say that there isnt any big hills in this area, there is no lungbusting climbs or descents that never end. there is a lovely flow to the trails with short climbs and descents all coming one after each other, i was at first expecting a similar trail to thetford but was surprised when we came across a rock garden then a little further on a lovely rock drop section. the trails have a few features to test you and most seem to be at that point when your thinking its getting all a bit samey. the bike park was closed when we visited due to the forestry commission doing work so unfortunately didnt get to try that. all in all we grinned all the way round even though you seem to be peddling for the whole 10 miles.

I usually visit sherwood once or twice a year at least even though it's quite a drive as something always takes you back! The new development to the freeride zone has improved it a lot. It has a nice flowy bermy runs with a few rock drops along the way. There are a few different lines.
The jump park is my favourite to both look at and ride. It has jumps of all sizes with the first actually being a really fun roller line that is well worth a go if you start right at the top at the entrance.
The trail is quite flat but still a lot of fun. It is definitely on the easy side of red though.

Good Points

Good for winter riding when the local mud and clay are magnetised to your rubber
Bad Points
Trails can be poorly maintained but you can always go off piste onto other singletrack, just follow your nose

Thought it would be busier especially with Centreparcs next door (apparently they don't advertise it - people off site don't spend money, their main aim), but it was very quite mid week even though it was mid summer.
Very easy for a red course, nothing at all technical, but as there's little in the way of hills, its constant pedalling. Also some sections are very muddy, so bad I had to get off and push, even though slope was non existent.
The bike park has some good stuff, though as the tracks criss cross each other, it could be dangerous when crowded.
I wouldn't drive far to come here but if your in the area anyway (esp staying at Centreparcs) , its worth looking at.
