I always enjoy a fast loop on the Kitchner Trail at Sherwood. It is fast and good fun.

User Review

Good Points
Good fun, fast (if you pedal hard enough!) and flowing. Uncrowded.
Bad Points
Lacks variety and not very technical. No hills.

Sherwood pines is an enjoyable day on the bike, but only if you're willing to put the work in as you can't rely on gravity to do the work as the Kitchener red trail is relatively flat with only 350meters of elevation over a 24k distance.
The trail is all single track through the forest and thick undergrowth which keeps you on your toes as any loss of concentration can easily result in going into a tree or bush. It does feel like hard work at the start but the trail gets more flowy as you make your way around the red graded route and you'll definitely finish with a smile on your face.
Along the route you'll find the downhill park & jump park, The jump park has lots of progressive well made jumps which looks well used and maintained, The downhill park has a number of short downhill runs that include rock gardens and drop offs which all start from a steep starting gate with an easy push up to get back to the start and gives you a bit of a rest from all the peddling you've done to get there.
The facilities are as you'd expect at a trail centre, with cafe, bike shop and bike hire plus large carpark ( £6 all day )
Also loads for the family to do as well, with blue and green bike trails,
Over all I had a good day on the bike and will visit again when in the area.

You will find Green, Blue and Red graded trails at Sherwood Pines. Tried them all and like Kitchener trail (Red route) the most. It has a nice flow when riden at the right speed. After riding a few times you will learn how to take the best out of it. The trail is relatively easy (no major difference between red and blue route), forestry commision is trying to make the trail more interesting and they added a rocky road and a tiny rock garden which you don't have to ride if don't feel very confident on a bike, there is a path allowing you to go round. The trail is nice and smooth, a lot of corners that will tempt you to ride fast, be careful though as you can meet some walkers on the trail going the wrong direction.

There is a bike park with dirt jumps and downhill zone in the forest. There are four paths you can choose from at downhill zone, they are quite similar to each other and all offer mini berms and a few drop offs – you can have some fun trying to lift you bike of the ground or just ride them through.

The trail has been rebuilt slightly, there is one place at the end of the trail that the forestry commision tried to make less muddy with no luck I'm afraid - it's still muddy. Like the idea of hardening the trail surface.

You can ride the trail all year round.

If you're coming with a family there is something for eveyone, you can ride a bike, play at Go Ape, ride a segway or have a walk with your four legged friend.

The car park (£4 charge) is really big (you can have a picnic or barbeque here) however it gets busy at weekends/Bank Holidays. If you're coming for a quick ride only I would suggest coming late afternoon to avoid crowds. Visitor centre, cafe, toilets on site. If you manage to break your bike riding there is a friendly and helpful staff waiting for you at the bike shop.

Would say Sherwood Pines is a good fun and would recommend it to everyone, it's one of my home trails so just can't give it a bad review ;)

I live 5mins away from pines so go every weekend. However I consider it a training centre to build stamina and test new equipment.
They've made all trails the same base material as green route so that shows how easy they've made it. I prefer before they over maintained it the days of ruts, exposed tree roots and ending the day head to toe in mud.

Good Points
Well maintened tracks however ... to be continued

Cafe and pines cycle centre is always helpful and can repair your bike there and then.
Bad Points
Trails are too easy - maintained too well (limestone paths)

Expensive car parking (I have a discovery pass but £6 all day for non pass users is expensive)

My nearest trail centre - I go about once a month for anything from a quick blast to a longer days riding out of the centre and back onto the trails. The Kitchener is at its best when ridden flat out, aim for a sub 50min lap. Take it easy and it can get dull.
The bike park while a bit tame compared to the Welsh centres is good fun. Again go flat out and try each of the lines to get the best out of it. The jump park is good and the short trail in is fun.
There are miles of trails off piste worth exploring and you can link into the local BW for a good 30km loop.
The facilities are great and there is loads for the minis to do while I play. The blue run is decent, nothing scary but still ok for a blast at speed.

Good Points
Almost 100% singletrack loop
Never seems to be that busy on the red trail
Bike park is wicked fun
Good facilities for the minis
Bad Points
Trails get very muddy in the wet.
When trees come down they take ages to clear them if at all.
Walkers on the red at weekends...when there are miles of paths available.

Very Muddy, prepare to change your clothes and carry some spare brake pads :-)

Good Points
Trail seemed very flat, no boardwalks and 3 berms, not really a red route in comparison to others that I have visited, don't really to test your skills and seems like a slush pit, to me not worthy of a 100 mile round trip!, on the plus there is an orange graded skills section and have to say, this is slightly EPIC, omg you can have some fun on this, you can even get massive air!!!! unless your my friend who brakes his hand on the baby jumps, but that is deffo worth a visit. also the facilities are excellent!
Bad Points
mud, mud and even more mud lol not testing enough sorry, other than that very nice!
