Description
Rother Valley mountain bike trails are situated in Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield. They include red, blue and green waymarked MTB routes, alongside a black downhill run and a jump track. The terrain has a clay base, so trails can become muddy in wet conditions.

All development is co-ordinated exclusively through the Rother Valley Riders, with the support of Rother Valley Country Park and Rotherham Borough Council. Rother Valley Red
- The red MTB trail is a short 6.5 km XC loop designed for experienced riders. It includes climbs, descents, technical features, and woodland singletrack.
- The route starts from the main map board in the newer car park.
- Digger’s Downhill is a short 650-metre all-season section within the red network, featuring 27 berms and multiple small jumps, with steep and fast sections.
Drift Woods – Blue
- The blue route is approximately 4 km and is suitable for beginner and intermediate mountain bike riders.
- It starts from the main map board in the newer car park and is fully signed.
- The route includes wide tracks, bridleways, and twisty woodland singletrack.
- Drift Woods itself includes around 1 km of weather-resilient blue/red trail split into three sections: the Graveyard section, the Bike Track-built End Game section (with berms, tables and 43 rollers), and the Orchard section, which remains unsurfaced.
Rother Valley Green
- The 5 km green route is a flat, family-friendly loop around both lakes.
- It follows wide, all-weather surfaced park tracks.
- The route is not fully signed; riders generally follow the main paths.
- Suitable for all types of bikes, including bike-ability adapted bikes.
Fort Elbow & Buzzard Banger – Black Downhill
- A steep, twisty downhill track of approximately 1 km.
- Features include jumps, drops, rock gardens and berms.
- Advanced riders only; not recommended for beginners.
Avoid the Gloop
- A 10.5 km route designed to avoid muddy sections during wet conditions.
- Follows hard-surfaced tracks only and links together durable paths within the park.
Jump Track
- One of the earliest riding features built on the site.
Longer rides and route links
- Rother Valley Country Park sits on National Cycle Network Route 6, providing traffic-free links towards Rotherham, Derby, Castleton and beyond.
- The park also connects directly to the Trans Pennine Trail, offering longer distance riding towards Sheffield, Chesterfield, Leeds, and coast-to-coast routes.
- A popular out-and-back ride follows the Trans Pennine Trail to Poolsbrook Country Park, around 10 km each way.
