Much has been said of late about the new sections of trail at the QECP so we thought we’d pay it a visit.

So 6 of us made the 80 mile journey to QECP yesterday frankly not expecting too much.

We’d heard of the MBR Award for the Blue trail which sounded fun, but we had also heard that the Red trail was very very sketchy in the wet. Well as you’ll see from the video, we are obviously pretty hardcore here in Wiltshire – or just used to the sticky mud!

In my opinion you can ride both trails in all conditions, but the Blue will definitely hold up better in the wet.

Don't dismiss it and when its dry it must a a real blast..

Good Points
The trail collective volunteers are always improving the trails where they are aloud to and have plans to improve the red route when the blue is finished.

The blue is so much fun now with loads of berms to swoop round and is rideable in all conditions
Bad Points
The only bad points which is out of the collectives hands are no bike wash and the trail signage is poor as you can get a lot of walkers straying on the trails again nothing to do with the collective they have asked the forestry commision and Hampshire County council that over see the park to do something about it

Overall a good bike trail set in an area sparsely populated with good built hilly mountainbiking trails.

User Review

Good Points
Went for some trail mountain biking. Would thorougly recommend it if its dry like today.

There are two trails there:
-A nice blue with some reasonably gentle climbing and some good quick flowy downhill, just about looked doable for those riders on non suspension bikes.
-A tricky red (was probably a bit tired by this point!) with some quite tricky climbing at times and some tricky but good downhill (about right for a red trail), good features being added.

Trails were well maintained when I went but due to soil being chalky, would be slippery when wet.

Good cafe and all day parking was a very reasonable £3.50 to top it off.
Bad Points
There are only two built trails here and may not satisfy all mountain bike taste (but does link in to the south downs way so lots of other riding available and there seems like massive scope for the place to expand and build new trail!)

QECP has been my home for riding for many years, starting from casual riding with the occasional decent.. To a serious competitive DH/Enduro rider where every moment on two wheels is nothing but a thrill.
You can ride the trails exactly how you want, fast or slow.. Once at the bottom, you'll certainly be grinnin'!
Most of my free time is happily spent riding QE's epic trails, for me (and as I'm sure for you), it never gets old. Due to its great build, natural vibe, and welcoming feel (other than the occasional miserable old walker) I'll always be hooked!

You'll end the day wanting more.. But you're ass would by that point, have had enough!
Get involved and go see what you're missing out on!
Happy shreddin'

Good Points
Great fun for all levels of riding.
Trails well maintained.
Great for progressive riding.
Based in an fantastic location.
QECP Trail Collective - a great community.
And many more.
Bad Points
Some of the local walkers who believe it isn't a place for mountain biking.
But don't let that ruin your day!

I've been riding up at QECP for 26yrs, and it's now the most fun it's ever been with dedicated investment from the QECP Trail Collective

I link up bridleways & Red & Blue Trails for a quick 90 minute loop, or include some cheeky trails when I want to mix it up a bit!

User Review

Good Points
Blue Trails are accessible by anyone
Red Trails are a step up, but an easy transition to more riding skills.
All the trails are easy to interlink and you can form one big loop
Bad Points
The winter mud
Parking can be a pain, but you will find someon

There's no such thing as bad weather conditions, just bad equipment. So although my first trip was underwhelming it's largely my own fault for not doing more research and knowing what the trails where actually like. I rocked up with a semi slick rear tyre and spend a large majority of my day conducting a hillside spinning class as mud and leaves filled my tyre treads with mulch. Can't say I enjoyed all of my ride around both blue and red trails but they both have some interesting features and the reds routes climbs were punchy and tricky as hell with all their roots which means you've got to concentrate as much on the ups and the downs (which I appreciate). My advice to any newbies is if it's wet bring mud tyres or prepare for some, er, 'interesting' situations! I'm really looking forward to going back when it's dried out as I think the red especially will be really good fun. Also if you have a fear of dogs this is not the place for you. I got chased around by many friendly but over excitable pooches!

User Review

Good Points
Red route has really good variety of terrain.
Good amount of elevation.
Can't wait to come back next summer and try again in the dry!
Bad Points
Not the most all weather set of trails I've been on, bring mud tyres if it's wet.
No bike wash which is crazy bearing in mind how muddy it is.

I can ride the blue trail in under 20mins on my cyclocross bike so if your slower than that, oh dear!!!!

Ride the blue as fast as you can, makes for a very good trail, do it 5 times and its a lung buster.

I love the traditional red loop, it has everything, evil climbs, fast decents, flowy sections, and in the wet the A3 section is a real test of rider skills with all the roots and off camber sections (I use my mtb for this, cx hurts lol).

Don't just do red loop, blue loop, mix it all up for a more enjoyable ride.

User Review

Good Points
All weather Blue trail virtually completed.
Red trail is a great test of skill/stamina in the wet.
Easy parking.
You can ride some evenings and see no one else around.
The park doubles in size if you know the locals trails.
Even though it is advertised as a horsey area you will very rarely come across a rider.
The cafe is as good as you find in a village, worth a stop.
Water tap at the centre.
The SDW runs through the middle so your riding a piece of history.
Bad Points
No bike wash.
None locals following the standard red/blue trails will think 'is this all?'
Not that easy for new unfit riders.
Dog owners hanging bags of poo on trees - THEY ARE NOT DECORATIONS, TAKE THEM HOME!!!!!!!!!
