I would recommend staying here for at least one night to explore the full range of trails, you would really struggle to get round the whole place in a day.

User Review

Good Points
it does not get full of riders stopping talking at the end of trails or at the start, you need to spend some time here to appreciate the full options available. my first ride out I went towards the northshore section, this is slippery but fun in the cold and wet, you need to bare in mind that it does rain here. my next ride out I drove from the lodges to the trail center and started from there, and I was shocked how much I did enjoy it there was parts that where difficult rock or boulder sections to climb, ( even if you where on a motorbike). but the downhill parts justified the climbs and for me that is what makes me happy. Nothing worse then climbing for hours to find the down hill part is c**p.
Bad Points
it gets really dark very quick, limited to no phone signal. and the ride around the water is full of gates.

All the trails have been improved with new surfacing and better lines and features in many places. Some of the climbs still demand the best your legs can offer, but the rewards are there with amazing views and stunning descents. A great variety of trails to both whet new appetites and further develop existing ones.
The low level multi user trails are the best I have come across and are a fabulous day out for any level of rider. Great for chilling and great for endurance training too.

The remoteness and solitude of Kielder may not suit all but i enjoyed it and shall return to try out the other trails available.

Good Points
Parking was plentiful on a fresh December morning and at £4 for the day i thought it was reasonable. The shop was closed today but the toilets where open with not another sole about.
I had quick blast around the skills course and then headed for the red route - Lonesome Pine and Bloody Bush.
The trails themselves are very raw and dont have that bedded in feeling which makes them more natural surface, once they get more use the smoother and faster they will become.
Bad Points
The only negative point i have about the trail is that the Northshore wooden section of the trail was totally un-rideable due to it wet/damp slippy surface which the signage does warn you of.

I have only traveled a little in england and scotland on my bike and when i moved to kielder i found we have the largest and longest downhill section in england.

User Review

Good Points
:rattle snake (black) great fun to ride fast flowing and some nice jumps drop offs and a great rock garden half way though. if you keep going to the top of dead water you will be meet with some insane views that stretch from the west coast to the east coast dead water fell is one of only 3 places in england you can see coast to coast.

:jimmys hill (red) great technical up hill section with 4 rock gardens and some good climbs its all worth it to get to twist and shout or up and over.

:up and over (black) well i think this one explains itself half way up jimmys hill turn left to the up and over this is a great fitness and skills test even for the experienced rides devils elbow is very hard to climb on your wheels i have to admit i have never been able to complete on my wheels, there are rock gardens 12 inch wide north shore and a fantasic downhill section with 4-5 foot drop offs and 6 foot jumps the burms are slightly washed away but they are in the process of being repaired. ( THIS TRAIL IS CLOSED UNTIL 2014 )

:twist and shout (red) carry on up jimmys hill and you will come to a t junction where you can turn left for the super bowl or right for twist and shout, the super bowl is a power bowl with 5 corners and 20 foot downhill decents. twist and shout is a really really fast flowing track with speeds to be gained around the 35 mph mark you no your riding when you are going like a bat out of hell there are a number of different terrains to comprehend from loose soil to gravel northshore and rock this track has it all. thanks to the trail reavers for putting grip take strips on wood stock (OPENING SOON) and a big thank you to tony from the forestry for taking the time to repair this track ready for next years tourists. the end of twist and shout brings you to the trails area and skills loops which are brilliant and well worth a potter around.
THANK YOU TO ALL AND EVERYONE WHO HAS PUT THE EFFORT IN IN BUILDING THESE GREAT TRAILS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS AND GIRLS.
Bad Points
:no up lift service
:no phone signal
:up and over is closed

Keilder has to be one of the most scenic trail centers a have been to. A lovely place to explore walk and ride. Choice of 3 red trails here. the deadwater trail, red with an optional black loop up to deadwater fell. At the start there is a small skills area with 4 different lines on it. Good way to get the heart going. Once we got going we found the climbs not to severe and the descents weren't to bad either, that was until we did the deadwater fell climb! Its black graded and steep and rocky and seemed to take forever. Worth it though for the view from the top. 1900 feet above sea level and on a clear day you can see both east and west coasts. The descent from there is very good, what looks like a fire road from some videos is actually a loose steep and fast ride to the bottom. Well worth the long hard climb. Back onto the red after that. A fun drop down into the forest which looked like it had recently been repaired from storm damage. The rest of the return route back to car park was pretty good, some sections could have had a bit more to them but overall it is well worth riding.
the lonesome pine trail heads the pother way out the car park and follows the blue route around kielder water for a while. (very scenic) it then climbs through the forrest with a few ups and downs with the odd rock tjhrown in. the climb up to the boardwalk seemed to last forever and was hard work (it was also 31 degrees c when we rode) the highlight is the boardwalk though. wasnt sure which tree was the "lonesome" pine as there was a few up there!
once off the boardwalk some of the descents from there were all really loose. seemed to zap your speed as very little grip. the ones that werent loose however were very fast and rocky. great fun.
