good fun place to visit with the bikes, handy location to get to.

Good Points
I have been to Haldon a couple of times recently, the first with my girlfriend and then after work when I am working in Exeter.

The trails are not long about 5 miles for the red, but both are great fun and you can have a good time whatever your ability. When I went with my girlfriend it was the ideal place to help her build confidence on the blue and following on from that she has continued to ride more and more at home.

The red is great fun, reasonably technical and fast. while it is not the longest trail, that did give the option to ride it a few times and see how you improve as you learn the features each time. i managed 4 times round the red and two on the blue along with a disastrous attempt at the black.

The views from the blue and the red offer the best you can fine, on both sides of the hill, it is tricky to keep an eye on the trail when you are being distracted by the amazing scenery.

There is also a great looking skills centre and a pump track by the car park and a good looking cafe for when you get back.
Bad Points
The first time I went i forgot the axle for my front wheel so hired a bike, they are fine for riding the family trails, but beware if you want to use them for much else, the brakes on the bike I used were close to non existent, which made for interesting cornering.

If you are happy with shorter tails which can be ridden a couple of times, and are not looking for the most technical trails then this is a great venue to visit.

The besy family trail centre I have ever been to. We took our children 3 times during a recent holiday. They are 2yrs (balance bike) and 5 yrs old. Hours of fun on the easy pump track and skills area. They both did the geen trail with no problems and my 5 yr old girl did the blue after daddy checked it out. She was so chuffed with herself.
I had a had a quick blast around the red with black extension, which can be ridden quickly. Would be graded blue with red elsewhere.
We will definitely be going back soon.

Really enjoyed Haldon growing the past few years. Kept clean and plenty to do for non biking family. Rangers always on hand for first aid too.

Good Points
Being relatively new to mountain biking this centre has provided a great introduction. The blue trail is suitable for family rides (my son is 9yo) but can also be great fun with fast flowing sections when riding with your mates.
The red route steps it up slightly and leaves a grin on my face each time I ride it. Again fast, twisty sections with a few oportunities to get airborne (slightly).
The black route is just enough to make a beginner curious about bigger things.
Alongside the trails are the skills and pump tracks, these (skills in particular) are entertaining for kids, big and small alike and allow you to safely hone your bike control.
The mixed routes never pose a problem and everything is verywell maintained.
The centre is also home to a great cafe, go ape and and always has an event or two happening.
Bad Points
Regarding the trails I would say that my only negative would be that the black route could be longer.
It wouldn't hurt to have a larger selection and I am now looking to try other centres simply to get this variety.
The skills area is quite compact and the pump track easy to tire of - that said the kids stay on it for ages quite happily while you have a drink.

What haldon lacks in berms it makes up for with undulating fun. It keeps you rolling nice and fast across the rocky terrain. The red isn't too hard at all here so can be ridden by most providing you have some off road skill. My favourite thing about haldon that makes me want to go back is the skills area. It is really good fun with little sections of things like little drops, rollers and north shore/boardwalk of different levels to build your skills up. The pump tracks are fairly good fun but never appropriate when you have the big wheels out. It's been a few weeks since i visited haldon but some of the descents still have me smiling!

A very family orientated trail centre, There probably wouldn't anything to intimidate most riders even on the red route which can be taken at any speed. Very nice setting for a ride but a serious lack of gradient for a rider who is after some downhill action. Cannot really compare with trail centres of the Lakes, Wales and Scotland. I've said I would recommend if you're in the area, but it's probably not worth a long drive.

Good Points
Great for families and beginners. Fantastic setting, well maintained skills area and pumptrack, some lovely views and fast descents. The black section offers some interesting technical challenges for the more serious riders as well. The cafe serves some fantastic sandwiches too!
Bad Points
Not really enough to keep an advanced rider interested. The black section could do with being a lot longer. There can be a lot of flat peddling involved.

Good Points
Friendly trail centre, great for introducing people to mountain biking without being surrounded by intimidating body armour wearing , storm trooper look a like downhillers. Anybody should be able to ride the blue and the red is good enough to make any rider grin no matter what their ability level, more of the same please :-) Fantastic views.
Bad Points
limited trails for intermediate to expert riders. Some parts of the trails are shared with walkers, not a problem as long as you are polite and courteous and the technical bits should be free of walkers.

Soft spot for my old local trails.

User Review

Good Points
Having lived a stones throw away from this place for a good couple of years, I went at least once a week and had the runs pretty dialed in. Set some pretty fast times around the place at the crack of dawn with nobody else around. The red is actually quite a blast with some really fast, smooth and compact trails so you literally can fly. Good views to be had all around, but nothing too challenging technically.

Nice well maintained and managed trails overall.

Has a good little cafe.

Pump track area could be bigger but its alright.

Good coffee.
Bad Points
Gets busy at weekends, with people cycling (I hate to say it) extremely slowly on the red. Yes I do use Strava for my sins.

You occasionally get dog walkers or the such like on the red trail taking shortcuts or whatever which has the potential to be dangerous.

If you're driving more than hour then go to Dartmoor if the weather's good. Great facilities. The tracks may not be that extreme at first glance but if you give it some stick the consequences of coming off are are pretty harsh as there are plenty of rocks and stumps everywhere so don't get lulled into a sense of security.

User Review

Good Points
The tracks hold up in all conditions so you can get some miles in regardless of the weather, good cake in cafe, the trails reward speed if you want to push it, good bacon sarnies, you can string lots of the tracks together and have a good day out, awesome views - including loads of huge buzzards and deer in the forest. The swoopy bit before the start of the black run - nice and quick. Rangers really helpful and friendly.
Bad Points
The sections aren't long enough (both up and down) to really get going. Dartmoor isn't far away so it's competing with 'proper' riding (still ride there a couple of times a month though as live 5 mins away). Idiotic dog walkers and runners going the wrong way round the red run (despite the really clear 'no entry' signs).

The visitor centre is pleasant and there's a skills area just by the car park. The whole setting is nice and when I was there, the other users were friendly enough.
