Description

Fifty (50) Acre Wood Mountain Bike Trails

Fifty Acre Wood is a natural, volunteer-built mountain bike trail in Abbots Leigh on the western edge of Bristol, maintained by the charity Ride Bristol. It is a single ungraded loop of around 3 miles (5km), mixing natural and hand-shaped sections with rocks, roots and a rough final descent, a step up in challenge from the neighbouring Ashton Court and Leigh Woods trails next door.

The Trails

  • 50 Acre Wood Loop (Ungraded): A single natural trail of around 3 miles (5km), volunteer-built and hand-carved through the wood. Expect a mix of natural and surfaced sections with rocks, roots, log features and optional drops, plus a fast, rough final descent that makes this trail feel more demanding than the trails at neighbouring Ashton Court and Leigh Woods. Ride it clockwise from the squeeze stile. It gets properly muddy in winter, since it does not have the all-weather surfacing found at Leigh Woods.

Local Organisation

  • The trail is built and maintained by Ride Bristol, a registered charity that looks after Bristol's mountain bike trails and runs regular group rides, including women+ rides and night rides based at nearby Ashton Court. They are always looking for volunteers, get in touch via their website.
