Description

Wagrain Bike Park was a purpose-built gravity park at the Flying Mozart gondola above Wagrain in Salzburg, Austria, open from 2008 until its closure. In its time it ran 11 trails reached by gondola uplift, from flowing beginner lines to the intermediate and expert Symphony trail, cut through the ski resort's forest terrain. The park is now permanently closed: operator Snow Space Salzburg has confirmed the gravity trails will not reopen, and a planned replacement park at nearby Grießenkar was abandoned after failing to secure planning permits. A small woom bike area for children still runs at the gondola's mid station, but there is no longer an uplift-served bike park to ride here.

The Trails

  • The park's flagship run was Symphony, a roughly 600 metre trail through the lower part of the park built around tables, step-ups, step-downs and other airtime features, with bypass lines around most obstacles so it could be ridden by a wide range of abilities despite its difficult rating.
  • Coming Fast added more flowing dirt berms and wooden stunts, RnB was built as a technical skills line, Hard Rock ran over natural roots and rock for a rougher, more technical ride, and On Air was a fast flow trail built around a large wall ride, one of the smoothest in Europe at the time.
  • Beyond these named runs the park held a jump park, single-trail descents and north shore sections, and the full network of 11 trails could be ridden as individual sections or linked together, giving riders plenty of ways to mix and match a day's riding.
  • The park was aimed at all abilities and was largely built on an all-weather surface, with a gondola uplift running considerably higher than most UK bike parks.

Getting Here

The bike park was based at the valley station of the Flying Mozart gondola, Widmoosweg 6, 5602 Wagrain, about 60km south of Salzburg in central Austria. A bike shop, hire centre and pizza restaurant operated at the base of the park, these closed along with the bike park itself. Wagrain's main village, with further shops and services, is about 1km away.
