Coming from the South
Take the A76 North from Dumfries for just under 5 miles. Turn left at the sign for Merkland and follow the lane gently uphill for a mile and a half. Take a sharp right when you see the sign for McMurdoston House and then sharp right again into our drive and down to the blue gate.

Coming from the North
Take the A76 South from Thornhill for about 5 miles to Auldgirth. Turn right and follow signs to Dunscore for just over a mile. When you see the postbox at the staggered crossroads go straight ahead and climb uphill for half a mile. Look out for our signs at the top of the drive, turn left and drive through the blue gate.

McMurdoston is at the very heart of the 7stanes rides and is the perfect location for a pit-stop between races/rides or for a longer stay. We offer bed and breakfast in the main house and self-catering in two well-equipped holiday cottages. Either way you will have access to locakable bike storage, lashings of hot water and be half an hour's drive from Ae, Drumlanrig and Mabie.

McMurdoston is a biker's paradise in many ways. We're only 10 minutes drive from Dumfries and all its facilities, we're close to several of the 7stanes trails and we are situated on quiet lanes perfect for those cyclists who like to combine downhill thrills with quiet tarmac. We lie directly on the LEJOG route and are a stone's throw from Keir Mill, the tiny village where the bike was invented.

If you need pampering we'll look after you in the comfort of the Bed and Breakfast, where we have a double and a twin room with a large private bathroom. On arrival you'll be given scones or cake to keep your energy levels up and breakfast is of the full Scottish type which should set you up for a day in the saddle.

If you prefer independence you can choose to stay in one of our two holiday cottages across the yard. Each has a double and a twin room, a shower-over-bath, a second loo and all the facilities you need after a hard day's riding. There's plenty of parking, safe bike storage, a washing machine and space to dry your clothes.

We've had 2 family holidays to McMurdoston and it's a great place to base yourself if you want to visit a few of the 7stanes on the one trip. Ae, Mabie and Dalbeattie are all within a 30-minute drive. The MTB trails at Drumlanrig Castle are just a short drive away too. The cottages are really comfortable, there's bike storage and it's relaxing to enjoy the wildlife after a tiring day on the trails.

Beautiful self catered cottages with plenty of wildlife to see, including the red squirrel each morning at breakfast. Friendly owners who help to make your stay an enjoyable one. The homemade scones and jam on arrival go down a treat! Bikes accommodated as well as we were. Highly recommend!
