Dumfries & Galloway, the South West corner of Scotland, is only 1 hour on the M74 north from Carlisle, or 2 hrs south of Glasgow/Edinburgh. Sometimes described as Scotland in miniature, from the Galloway Hills to the Solway Firth. Kippford is 15 miles SW from Dumfries.

Heading South on the M74/A74:
Take M74 towards Dumfries. Leave M74 at Moffat & Dumfries turnoff (A701). Continue on A701 for approx.17 miles to Dumfries, pass Locharbriggs and Heathhall areas. At the large roundabout (Dumfries By-pass), take the right hand lane signed A75 Stranraer.
Stay on A75 for about 6 miles, past two roundabouts. At the third roundabout take a left for A711 Dalbeattie and Colvend Coast (also signposted Garroch Industrial Estate). Follow for approx half a mile, over a small roundabout, to another small roundabout. Turn right for Dalbeattie A711.

Follow A711 for approx 11 miles to Dalbeattie. In Dalbeattie, see sign to left at Town Hall for Town Centre but keep on main road (or turn left for local shopping).
For Colvend Coast, Kippford, Rockcliffe and Sandyhills, continue through Dalbeattie then follow A710 Solway Coast road (brown tourist signs for the Colvend Coast and Kippford) on left. 3 miles from Dalbeattie is the turn right for Kippford at Barnbarroch. Kipp Paddock is on the left after about 600 yards, just past Doonpark Caravan Park on the left and Craigieknowes Golf Course on the right.

Heading north on the M6/M74:
M6 then M74, then after Carlisle and Gretna, turn off for A75 Annan and Dumfries. Approx. 3 miles from Dumfries pass Shell Garage on left and take a Right round the roundabout, signposted A75 Stranraer. Follow this route over further four roundabouts. Take a left for A711 Dalbeattie and Colvend Coast and follow further directions as above.

Heading from Ireland and the West:
Follow A75 for Dumfries and exit to right after Castle Douglas, signposted Dalbeattie. Arriving at Dalbeattie, Colvend Coast road A710 is on the right at the approach to the town, or continue straight on for Town Centre, turning right at the clock tower, and follow further directions as above.

Heading from the East:
Join A75 at Gretna for Annan and Dumfries, then follow directions as for coming north above.

Situated close to the Dalbeattie 7Stane trails (500m to the trails; 1.5 miles to the trailhead) and within Kippford - a pretty coastal village with 2 good pubs serving food - our Norwegian pine log cabin is a perfect base for biking.

Birchlea sleeps up to 6 in 3 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twins), with 2 bathrooms, large open-plan lounge/dining and fully fitted kitchen; it is well-kitted out for self-catering. A large utility cupboard with washing m/c & tumble dryer is suitabe for drying gear.

Fully centrally heated, Birchlea is open all year round.

In an exclusive, small site set around a fenced-in lochan, it has its own open grassed garden and 2 large decked verandas. Parking for 2/3 cars alongside.

4 further 7Stanes sites are nearby (between 20 & 50 mins drive). Dalbeattie town is 3 miles away, for local shopping, restaurants, takeaways, and a good bike shop (bike hire also available). More good bike shops also available 20 mins in Castle Douglas.

Plenty to see & do in area for non-biking members of party, including water-sports for all the family, farm parks, horse-riding, fishing etc. Kippford itself and Dalbeattie Forest in general have walks & trails galore for non-biking group or more gentle cycling.
