Discovered a new mountain bike route around Trent Park today. I headed off from Lordship Rec in Tottenham and did the 5.6 miles by road. I wanted a route that avoided the A10 was not so congested and yet fast. I headed up past the Wolves Ground towards palmer green and then Southgate ending in Oakwood tube.
Opposite Oakwood tube is an entrance into the park. I headed straight across the field hugging the left with the plan to keep to the perimeter and do a circuit all the way down. Put simply I kept to the left the whole way.
After a few fields it went super muddy and I was surprised but happy to find there was some shore (raised wooden path) in a few places to get you over it.
Much of the terrain is rooty interspersed with a fallen log across the trail to test your skill every 300 metres or so. There are also a few stream crossings so was happy for my waterproof socks.
Overall it is quite twisty and tight singletrack. I hit a few dead ends exploring but nothing that was more than a few minutes inconvenience.
Eventually got to Cockfosters gate and headed
down to the cafe. Was in the zone so didn't stop. Continued past behind cafe along perimeter on left until I hit the start of the chute (downhill rut which is lots of fun if not a swamp)
Just before the chute by the ancient moat I could see some old jump building that had eroded significantly over time.. Still some fun to be had there with some natural drops and crafted kickers.
After chute it is a left turn along the perimeter through singletrack until you head up the bridleway to a T junction. Go right for 20 meters. Left to park office and on your left is dirt park city. Fun if not slightly dilapidated and dodge tabletops and doubles to practice manual and jumps on to your hearts content.
Head to right at end by final berm and head straight down; just before path head right on singletrack until you hit the golf course. Follow road to house and you hit signs to main road and exit. Follow omn road for a mile or so and up long hill. Turn right at main road and you see Oakwood tube on left.
Way back much quicker as mostly down hill.
Two things of note on way back. First was cherry tree inn which has outdoor seating and looks like a great stopping place in Southgate and secondly the route back passes a jet wash garage. Neat.
