HOW TO JUMP: 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Greetings People!!

I've been riding for a bunch of years and am just lately attempting to get into freeride, downhill, etc.
At my current skill level I am proficient on the bike: I can Bunnyhop, J-hop, do small wheelies, a 1 second manual ride some small skinnies, and do small drops( up to 1 meter).

My question is: How do I learn to Jump? Like tables and doubles etc.
I've researched this on other forums and exhaustively watched video after video and I cannot for the life of me, get any air let alone feel comfortable riding into the jump's ramp.

Just please do not tell me to "just practice". I am.
I am currently looking for SPECIFIC input. i.e.: what do do with my arms, legs, head. where to look. how to pull the lip. etc etc.

Thank you in advance for your help and input.

I am LOST when it comes to jumping. ANY HELP???

Yo I am still learning but I can share the tips that are taking me on the way.

Start on tabletops and over onto doubles as you feel comfortable with the technique. Tabletops are a lot more forgiving.

Check out he jump first. Watch others do it a few times. See their technique on approach, the lip the air and landing. In some ways the landing is the key bit to check out.

Approach be off saddle and at a fair speed. Be reasonably central to the bike and a few metres before the jump stop pedaling. This will help keep you and your bike steady. I have my pedals flat and parallel

The lip as you are right next to it your body will be crouched and as you go up the lip push down on your forks and release back. In a sense you are popping your front wheel up into the air. Pushing back on your feet will also give you height. You pushing your bike away from you into the ground

The air is the fun bit. As you are up you will start to naturally level off. If you have cleared enough distance you will be landing on the decline of the other side of the tabletop. It is key that your bike lands in the same direction and parralel to the decline slope. To achieve this whilst in the air you push forward with your handlebars and lift up your legs and your pedals. This moves the nose down and your weight back. The timing of this take practice (this is my challenge right now)

the landing Keep your feet firm into the pedals and roll with the bike. You front wheel will hit the decline first followed practically instantaneously by your back wheel. The slope makes what would not work on flat work.

If you are landing half way on the tabletop make sure you land either both wheels together or back wheel first so you don't nose dive.

Wear lots of body armour. Start on something small. Enjoy the rush it's addictive.

One other important thing while in the air - RELAX. This isn't something you can wait to happen as you get more confident, you have to make yourself relax or you'll seriously increase your chances of crashing!

Also, the front wheel first thing - nothing wrong with how you describe it but it's quite advanced. It works when you've already got a bit of control and you're positioning the bike acurately so the front's touching down on the 1st bit of the landing after a gap. The back wheel will be in the air still, as there's a gap & nothing for it to contact with.
...however if you're landing on a downslope and you've got no gap, aim to position both wheels down together. Back 1st is OK if it's not too exagerated, but both together is best. Once you've got this dialled you can move on to 4-cross _style_ front then back as decribed by dan
