Tires help please Posted at 2008/01/14 11:49 Karma: 2
Hi All,

i am thinking of buying some new tires, the ones i am currently running are pretty fair weather from what i can tell, low tread close together, they are the ones that came on the bike, they are fine in good conditions, however i am thinking i need some winter/mud tires could anyone suggest any tires, i have seen the article in mbr this month, and will be having a good look at that again.

just thought i would see what you guys thought, mainly for XC riding, but we do seem to come across alot of mud where we ride, but i still want the handling when i am not in the mud if that makes sense

Hey Mr Whippy,
I've been running Panaracer Fire XC pro's on my Giant Reign all year round. They grip pretty well in all conditions and do shed mud well too. They're also quite a fast rolling tyre on more hard-packed stuff..

Hi
I use Panaracer xc pro's but I'm not a great fan don't think there to clever on rocky trails and if your in the trees they can clog at tad with pine needle type mulch.
As for them looking skinny I use the 2.1 version and they dont look overly thin (depends what your use to I suppose)
I would class them as a jack of all trades but a master of none. That's my opinion but if you get a set you won't be too disapointed with them.
They are directional but it's the same tyre you turn around from front to back.
If your looking for a winter tyre though probably worth looking at something different.
Hope that's helpful in not slightly criptic
Regards Steve
