On the homemade front, ive just engineered shock/pivot protectors/mud guards out of PET water bottles, polyethylene bags, zip ties & electrical tape.

soz, probably not what you had in mind!

this just substitutes the plastic guard Giant should have shipped free with their earlier bikes. (most Maestro FS bikes have a pierced down tube which exposes the shock directly to the front wheel spin-off.

thats not to say i wont be stapling polythene to an empty bog-roll at some future point

Its the top of sainsbury's own brand 5l water bottle btw, not ideal itll do for now.

mudguard is in 2 parts, this is the top bit;

its just held in place by the 2 zip-ties, the (wrong coloured) tape is just to prevent scratches/rub and blunt the plastic edges for safety. The bottle is 1.5l evian btw.

Bottom section;

pic of similar _frame_ for reference;

Sorry about the low pic quality. Its a sheet of thick polyethylene, wrapped around the 2 (offset) rear triangle braces and underneath the lower pivot.

Ive been out this afternoon in the hope of getting a mud-splattered 'after' pic but conditions didnt oblige so i still dont know if it works or not, however everything held together ok.
