Weather or NOT!
What a mare when you’re actually forced to study because the weather is so in ya face and I mean quite literally. Missed out on going out and about this weekend on the bikes. At least the 2 weekends before we managed, though it was mainly road rides as the weather is so up and down at the moment, (like anyone needs telling that).

The Beautiful White Stuff……
Exactly a week ago today, I woke up and looked out of the bedroom window upon the beautiful white stuff; it looked so soft and flaky. Not a foot print out there at all. The only problem was I actually had to get to work. Life is SO unfair! A colleague phoned me to say he wasn’t going in as he couldn’t get his car off the drive.

Wow what a noise, way to early in the day. At least this morning the alarm clock is saying it’s play time
It’s 4 in the morning and once more the dawning….
Woke up to dark skies and bleary eyes. The alarm rang out in the dark at 04:00 hours, I pushed Keven out of bed first. Then I scrambled around trying to protect my eyes from the sudden burst of light as Keven flicked on the light as leaving the room

The Gathering of Tribes

Road riders huddle with dirt bikers, xc whippets collide with downhill warriors, trials artists nod at the fearless street and BMX stars, fierce fixies entice fashionable single speeders over to the dark side. London the loveable slut she is, being the wonderful canvass and diverse melting pot she represents, is the perfect venue for such a meeting as the tribes of cyclists collide and become one. This is the Cycle Show 2009.
Had a lovely long weekend.
We arrived at my folks on (06.09.09) Saturday afternoon, to a lot of sniffles and sneezes. Great! What a weekend we’re going to have! But What a Weekend we did have.

Annual Leave August 09
Had a great time this week. Got to my folks on Saturday, had a relaxing afternoon. Sunday we went for a walk to look around Lee Quarry; definitely not ready for the Black graded part of the ride, but think I will be able to cope with the rest at a push. It was a good morning out and not too far from my parents, so will be able to stay at theirs and ride up to the Quarry. Probably do that on the next biking visit.

North London Bike Track Progress
Folks, Realise I have been quiet recently on the plans to build a Bike Track in Lordship Rec in Tottenham North London. So I wanted to do a quick update as in the background we have been really busy and getting some great results with input from many folks including most importantly the local community.
As an update last month iBikeRide ran the local consultation with residents and riders. The finding recommended strongly a multi disciplined park for all ages with a focus on jumps, berms, recreational racing and skills development. Since then the architect and council have moved successfully to stage D of the drawings for the bike Park in North London (that's passed concept stage and into design and costing stage). The areas coming out in design concepts that support the consultation well which are we are reviewing (not signed off or approved) are a racing track with jumps, a small pump track for all ages and abilities, a skills areas to encompass, boulders and shore and some winding trails through the small woodland
Overall I think this will be pretty significant for off road cycling and particularly London as we have I believe the first (legal) multi disciplined off road dirt track in a built up deprived area in London. I am thinking to start a club later this year to rally and organise local riders. The Lordship Rec has a community festival in the summer and we are excited to be looking to support and have a stand at Festival on the 12th September 2009 in Tottenham, North London. Please come along for a fun day and to spread the word. We estimate over 3000 people to be there.
I'm working closely with Ian Warby at the CTC who are giving really great guidance and practical support and I'm planning on visting Ian soon on his latest project in Leighton Linslade to get some real learnings. I have had also conversations and really good input from Phil Saxena (builds World Cup 4 cross tracks) who has sent on a model of a bike park in Germany that succesfully acheived a similar result we are looking for. Even Brian Lopes (Rides and often wins world cups on the tracks Phil builds) has given advice on what not to build in terms of keeping the corners smooth and not too tight so as not to break speed and to keep jumps in the pump track small to keep the flow. Do you have bike park design experience? If so get in touch. Will update soon
