I quite recently got a Specialized Big Hit III which comes with a Marzocchi 888 RV, 200mm travel suspension fork. I have to say I have been pretty impressed.

So I was keen to check at the Marzocchi stand at this years Cycle show. They had the full range up and you get struck by the very cool artwork straight away. There is much more to 2008 than their artwork mind

Marzocchi have been producing high performance suspension for over a century and in the late 80's when mountain biking was kicking off they produced their first suspension fork. By 1995 their trademark and signature fork the Bomber was alive and most defienetly kicking. Year after year they have kept up with the incredibly fast developments and discliplines and have world renowned and envied forks specific for all disciplines be you a XC racer a freerding hooligan, a downhill nut or a 4 cross .junky. They have  kept it sweet.

So what's new for 2008. In essence they are taking their top of the range, range and making it better with significant investment in R&D and extreme product testing. Some people have a tough job hey!

Highlights:

  • All their 2008 model forks now come with animpressive 3 year warranty
  • Their top of the range forks have new nickel coating to give improved performance and durability
  • On the XC, 55, 66 and 888 there is a new casting design allowing for a higher diameter arch that is much stronger.
  • They have a new ATA (Air Travel Adjust) Red dial (on the left at the top facing the fork). This is a completely redesigned dual rate air spring to create a coil spring alike compression curve (benefits of both in otherwords) with infinite travel adjustment up to 40mm.
  • The TST micro (Trail Section Technology...red dial on the other side) has a new catridge with infinite postions whatever your trail. So with the micro adjuster at the top the of the slider the rider can change the range of the compression from light to full lock.
  • On all 55 and 66 models there is a quick release QR20 axle. Neat and convenient when changing tyres and transporting the beast.
  • The RC3 (red dial right at the bottom) has all the timing capabilities for the high perfromance racing and freeride feeling in a single catridge. Basically this is Marzocchi most advanced peice of technical wizardry: Rebound adjuster to control the exension, Position Sensitive Compression controlled by the left centre knob, High Speed and low Speed Compression controlled automatically on the bootom knob to change the rate of compression. On the 888 you get volume adjust also .
