How to fall off a mountain bike. hey.. It's all useful stuff.

(video credited to pctv1)

Now, a little video on how best, not to fall Tongue out

Step 1:

Be prepared. Always wear a helmet, gloves and knee pads as a minimum. If you downhill or freeride then a full face helmet and body armour with spine protection is essential. A welcome move is the reduction of weight in full face helmets and armour so it can even be comfortable on trail riding so keeping us in the saddle longer, Generally the more protection you have the more you will naturally push yourself further and achieve more.

Step 2:

As you feel yourself heading for a fall then stay lose. A rigid body will injure more. Keep your eyes peeled (as much as you can) to avoid sharp rocks and trees.

Step 3:

Tuck your chin down into the chest and your arms bent in at the elbow to absorb the shock. Roll with the fall. Aim to fall on your side if possible, rather than your chest or back. Don't use your hands to break the impact. Your wrists will bear the brunt and they aren't designed for this. If you fall and land on your legs run with the fall.

Step 4:

Once down try if you can to move your bike out of the way of other riders and shout to warn other riders you are down, especially if you are still on the route.

Ride within your limits yet push your boundaries in a controlled manner. Get back on as soon as you physically should and can. Ride with others and look out for each other. Even the best fall ... Enjoy the video below.

How to fall.
falling is a skill you can improve with practice. Try taking some aikido lessons. This saved my other half from a really serious injury last season.

Shake it Off!
If you crash and are okay, i suggest looking back and seeing what went wrong & analyzing that trail and hit it again, right away, because if you let it linger, it will sketch you out and you may not hit that trail again.
