Building Dirt Jumps in the Fifty

Went down to the local Newhall woods "The Fifty" today to try my hand at building with some of the guys who ride there locally.

Been dry the last few days so the ground was tough. We got built a good lip and then supported it with a big tree trunk. Filled the middle with logs and planks and stones and filled it with earth.

Good fun andstill needs a bot more filling in but our enthusiasm drained a bit as it got dark and of course guys just wanted to session it a few times. Some good riders down there. All pretty fearless and getting some decent air. I'd like to take the video camera down there so can do a feature for the site.

Might go down Wednesday after lunch and take some water so we can pack it down more.

I've also made contact with the owner of the Newhall development. A Matthew Byatt to talk about working with the IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) to get the woods turned into a managed park. Thye have a lot of potential and more thye have a keen and committed bunch of volunteers to manage it properly.

Good suggestion tonight was to get sponsorship of the park form maybe Halford the local bike store where most shop around here. We will see

Last night got some T - Shirts and flyers printed for the World Champonship weekend. I will be camping in the garden of Phil Saxena with Plinio (our mate in common). He is a bit of an unsung hero especially of mine. He is a core trail builder.

Phil has built some of my favourite tracks and I’m quite psyched to meet him and hopefully interview him. He built Fort William World Champs course (hardest and scariest thing I have ever ridden for 2 days of my life) and where the championships are ridden on, Hamsterley (where I broke my arm), Cwn Carm (I rode this earlier in the year and fell in love with the place).

right off to tesco's
