I accidentally closed the tab the first time, so some details might be left out.

We went to an 8k climb trail yesterday. The best part of it is going down it. 3 of us raced downhill (we were the ones with full suspension), and had a great time.

Near the end, we had to pass through a small place with houses. Instead of pavement, there are rocks, and since it was still a downhill, we were still going fast.

As we entered, the guy behind me jokingly said "don't hit any children". Just then, I spotted a small garage ramp, to my right, so I decided to jump it. Little did I know that an 8 year old looking kid was coming out through the side of the house, next to the ramp.

It was when my front wheel was mid-air, that I first saw the kid, less than a foot next to me. He jumped back frightened. We kept riding the last 200 feet and stopped. The two other guys were as shocked as I was. I didn't see the kid anymore when I looked back, but I'm sure that he didn't get hurt.

I'm not sure of what could have happened if the kid had came out any sooner, but I'm guessing that it would have included bent rims, a hurt shoulder for me, big bruises, probably a broken derailleur, a crying kid with a huge bruise, angry parents, and a grudge from the townspeople.
