Myself and 3 guys from Liss and Petersfield are going to attempt a 70mile route on Saturday.

Shoreham-by-Sea to Guildford Downslink (40miles) then back to Liss and Petersfield via Godalming, the Devils Punchbowl and Ludshott Common (23miles).

The Downslink is described as flat - so we are doing the uphill route.

The second leg has a bit more excitement to it forest trail, sandy trails, muddy sections and dont forget the

slog up the Devils Punchbowl. Not too much for the downhill racers amonst us but the distance should drain the energy reserves.

A couple of the guys are in training for the "BHF South Downs Way 100 miler in a day" in the summer.

Downslink info is available on the link  www.westsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/prow/pdfs/DownsLinkRouteGuide.pdf

I will let you know how we get on.

    2008-02-2811:33:02 Cheers Mark.
I remember englad vs portugal (it was hot). i was at a campsite in the new forest crammed into a nice pub stood next to a portuguese girl and her english boyfriend.
How did you find the downslink? Smooth? well signposted?

2008-02-2721:01:53 Good Luck! Sounds like fun, especially the Devils Punchbowl

I did it as part of a small group from my club, from Kingston via St Martha's Hill to Goring on Sea. We had to get to the pub in Goring to watch England V Portugal last year. We did the 78 miles in just under 5 hours, on the hottest day of the year, to find out we couldn't get into the pub because we didn't have tickets! (Watched it on the B&B TV with a cup of tea)

Good fun though! Felt it the next day when we did the SDW to Winchester - another 45 miles!
