Second victory this year for South African rider Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate). Greg takes the lead of the exciting World Cup series. Rachel Atherton (Animal Commençal) also won for the first time on the Quebec track to take womens overall from Sabrina Jonnier. In four cross, 2008 World Champions, Alvarez de Lara and Melissa Buhl, won both the mens and womens categories.

Downhill Men: Greg Minnaar at his best

With three rounds to go (Bromont, Canberra and Schladming), things have never been so close. One month after the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole (ITA) where the Atherton family won two Downhill titles with Rachel and Gee, the World Cup started again on the famous and highly regarded track in Mont-Sainte-Anne (CAN). After his win in Fort William in early June, Greg Minnaar added a second victory this season (his first ever in Mont-Sainte-Anne), proving that he is in a strong position to take the 2008 World Cup title. That would be his third overall win after 2001 and 2005. The Pietermaritzburg rider beat Australia’s Sam Hill (Monster Energy Iron Horse), new World Champion Gee Atherton (Animal Commençal) and recent Great Britain champion Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate) and took the World Cup leader jersey. It might be hard to throw him out…

Downhill Women: Rachel Atherton

Rachel Atherton (Animal Commençal) had never in Mont-Sainte-Anne before. It is now done. The British rider took the lead of the World Cup overall after a win on her most serious rival Sabrina Jonnier (Maxxis) with a short gap of 1’’43. Tracy Moseley (Kona) finished third but far behind with a gap of 9’’50. 38 points now separate Atherton and Jonnier. Nothing is over!

Four-cross Men: Alvarez de Lara, definitely great!

Before this season, big Spanish rider Rafael Alvarez de Lara never won a World Cup round. A fifth place in at the World Championships in Fort William last year was his best achievement. But the Spanish rider reached top level this season. Surprising winner in Maribor, he also outclassed all the favourites in Val di Sole last month and became World Champion. It seems that nothing can stop him as he also dominated the 4th round of the World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne and took the World Cup leader jersey. Romain Saladini (Team Sunn) reached his first final this season and finished second ahead of Guido Tschugg and Cédric Gracia (Commençal-Furious-Oakley).

Four-cross Women: Melissa Buhl confirms

Melissa Buhl managed to raise her new World Champion jersey on the highest step of the podium. The American rider beat Mio Suemasa (MS Intense-Factory Racing) and Fionn Griffiths. Despite a crash in the final, Anneke Beerten (MS Intense-Factory Racing) is still leading the World Cup.
