Not long now!
As the Fort William team rushes around getting all the last minute details sorted, the World Cup Teams are preparing for this weekend’s World Cup in Vallnord, Andorra – the first triple event of the year where the cross country riders meet up with the gravity teams of downhill and 4-Cross.

As soon as they’ve finished (and you can watch the action live, details below) it’s all aboard trucks, vans, boats and planes for an epic drive across Europe to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.

That’s what you call a road trip.

For bike fans everywhere it’s time to follow the World Cup convoy and head north for the biggest event in the UK biking calendar.

See you in Fort William.

Vallnord live

All rounds of the 2008 Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup are being shown live on the internet – including Fort William.

Check out this weekend’s action in Vallnord and see who’s hot in the final build-up to Fort William.

Here are some of the channels showing the World Cup.

Look out for the MTBCut studio at Fort William, they’ll be doing interviews and chats on the Big Screen with stars and fans. MTB goes X-Factor?

Steve wins in Lisboa Downtown

Steve Peat took the Lisboa Downtown title for the 7th consecutive year. It’s a mad dash down the steep, narrow, twisting alleys, pathways and steps of the city’s hilly old town and Steve is the king. We’re thinking of putting some staircases at Fort William this year……

100th Downhill celebrated in Fort William

The 100th UCI World Cup downhill will take place in Fort William this year. The first governing body organised Downhill took place in 1993 and was won by a certain Nicolas Vouilloz, then a junior – who could probably still get into the top 10 these days.

The winner of the 1993 World Cup Series was Jurgen Beneke (GER) and the

1993 World Champion was Mike King.

So, an even bigger celebration this year, including some special prizes for the winners and a commemorative T-shirt available from the merchandising stand.

Party in the Fort - An Aird Car Park

An Aird car park, near to the Nevis Centre is the official entertainment site for Party in the Fort including the Monster Bike Show. The Nevis Centre will open at 7pm offering catering and a bar ahead of the World Cup Ceilidh.

Party in the Fort 7pm – 10.30pm An Aird Car Park
It kicks off with 3 live band free concert in town (Jyrojets, Mucus and one other to be confirmed) and some very special entertainment

World Cup Ceilidh - Saturday 10.30pm - 2am
Then it’s over to the Nevis Centre for some late night partying with a wild mix of DJs and high energy ceilidh bands, just to loosen up tired limbs.

Tickets for the World Cup Ceilidh are £5, available online at www.thebooth.co.uk or on site at the event.

1993 bike, clothing and nutter needed

As part of the celebrations of the 100th World Cup downhill, we’d like someone to forerun the Fort William World Cup course on a 1993 bike, wearing 1993 clothing (fluo lycra anyone?).

If you are man/woman enough for the job and have got a classic bit of bike kit in your garage, get in touch with the World Cup Team at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Nokia Sports Tracker for XCO

As part of their support of Bike Week (14-22 June), Nokia will be in the village demonstrating their multi-talented gps enabled phones and the Sports Tracker system.

We’ll be using the technology to track the lead motorcycle trials rider at the head of the Cross Country races, showing progress on the Big Screen. This will give those who haven’t ventured out on the course the chance to see when the riders are likely to be coming back through the village.

You can see the route on Sports Tracker here. The World Cup riders will do this route in less than 20 minutes.

Fuelled by Monster Energy Drink

Monster sponsored DH rider Sam Hill has already won a World Cup and a World Championships at Fort William. This year he’ll be spearheading Monster’s drive into the UK as they arrive in force for the World Cup. As well as a chance to sample a Monster, look out for some special action in the in the village, in particular their mighty Ball of Steel.

The guys at Monster are definitely into mountain biking for the long term as they’ve agreed a 3 year deal to keep fuelling the Fort William World Cup up to 2010.

Nevis Range course gets SDA action as World Cup warm-up

The competition season on the Nevis Range Downhill course kicked off with the SDA races in glorious weather on a fast, baked course.

Ben Cathro scored a sub 5 minute time to take the Elite win whist Tracy Moseley took the women’s title as she prepares for her favourite World Cup course.

VisitScotland go cow bell crazy

Noise is important at Fort William. The crowds make it and the riders feed off it. VisitScotland are taking the noise generation seriously this year with a limited edition, Highland Cow cow bell. Try to get your hands on one at the VisitScotland/Forestry Commission tent close to the finish arena.

Downhill gets Monster Munch

Monster Munch End of course

Some last minute digger action has been taking place on the Nevis Range Downhill, creating the Monster Munch. This new section gives the World Cup course a jump over the Puggy Line and speeds up the run into the Hip Replacement and the final sprint along the Motorway.
