The first two straights were completely transformed and several obstacles reworked so that the track resembles as closely as possible that of the Olympic Games in Beijing. The starting ramp is already identical to the starting ramp in Beijing.
The modifications were carried out as more and more National Federations travel to the WCC to train.
Although the Olympic Games in August are the highlight of the season, the athletes are currently in the middle of the UCI BMX Supercross series. Several National Federations are using the WCC track to prepare the third leg of the series, which will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on May 9th and 10th.
On April 24th former WCC trainee Vilma Rimsaite, of Lithuania, returned to the WCC for a week’s training camp in preparation for the European Championships and the Supercross.
On Sunday 4th May, BMX athletes from Australia, Great Britain and the USA will arrive for several days’ training on the WCC track. They will share the track with the New Zealand contingent which has been in Aigle since 27th April. The three American riders, Arielle Martin, Jill Kintner and Amanda Geving finished 2nd, 5th and 6th respectively in the final of the last Supercross leg in Adelaide, Australia, on 14th April.
A week later, from May 12th – 23rd, seven BMX riders from the Colombian National Federation will be at the WCC to prepare the UCI World BMX Championships which take place in Taiyuan, China, from 29th May – 1st June.
