He is as smooth in the rain and mud as the hard packed sun kissed dirt and is so far taking the season by storm. He won the men's elite in Rotura in 2006 and won this year in Fort William the World Champs.
With a totally different style to Steve Peat he literally seems to dance with his bike whilst hurtling at incredible speeds whatever the distance or terrain.
In July he took the title in Schladming, Austria, winning by over 5 seconds and putting a little breathing room between himself and Steve Peat in the World Cup Series overall title chase. This win comes on the heels of a win at the Mont Ste Anne, Quebec round and an incredible third place finish in absolutely horrendous conditions at the Champery, Switzerland stop.
I guess with this win, Sam extends his overall World Cup Series lead over Steve Peat to 168 points. An uncomfortable fact for many of us to read but a fact none the less and respect to the man.
