Tuesday, 04 March 2008 Alan Shearer and Adrian Chiles to ride the Sport Relief Super Cycle from Newcastle to London on Specialized bicycles Specialized have announced their involvement in the Sport Relief Super Cycle. As Supporting Partner, Specialized will be providing Shearer and Chiles with Specialized equipment, bicycles and technical support in an effort to raise money to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
The duo will set off on The Sport Relief Super Cycle on Thursday 13th March, from St James’s Park, Newcastle, in a bid to cover the 335 miles to BBC Television Centre at breakneck speed. Travelling via The Hawthorns ground in West Bromwich, they will aim to arrive in west London no later than 7.30pm the next evening, as part of Sport Relief’s big night of TV on March 14th.
With the maximum distance cycled in any one day of the Tour de France being 149 miles – the size of the Super Cycle is huge. Day one alone sees Alan and Adrian attempting to out-do the professionals by cycling an arduous 186 miles.
Shearer said
"Since being fitted on the Specialized Roubaix over a month ago, I have tried to squeeze in 200 miles of training a week. For a relative non-rider you need to have good kit to help you through it - this is an incredible bike. Especially compared to some of the other bikes I have been riding before my introduction to Specialized. It made me realise how bad all the others had been. I wouldn't mind a bigger and softer saddle though as I have an ex-footballer's backside! The rest of the gear is fitted perfectly and has made a huge difference to my training. All I need now is some 'specialised' cyclist's legs to go with it!!"
Specialized will also be donating 3 Roubaix Expert bicycles, signed by Alan and Adrian to raise more funds at auction.
Get behind the boys! Alan and Adrian have one goal – to raise as much cash as possible. Give now to support them at www.sportrelief.com/supercycle

2008-03-1314:07:23 Alan Shearer and Adrian Chiles this morning (13th March) began their grueling Sport Relief Super Cycle challenge to raise funds for the charity.
Setting off from the pitch side at Newcastle United ground St James? Park, cheering crowds were present to see the pair off as Kevin Keegan marked the beginning of the challenge with a fog horn at 8:40am.
Support partner, Specialized, are supporting the pair with Roubaix bikes, Specialized technically advanced equipment and tech support along their mammoth 335 miles journey which they are planning on covering at a blistering pace over the next two days. Their goal is to reach BBC Television Centre by tomorrow evening, throwing in a detour to West Bromwich Albion, Adrian Chiles? home team, to keep them on their toes.
Alan and Adrian will be kept in the saddle by the knowledge that the public are supporting them by donating at www.sportrelief.com/supercycle
Today Alan and Adrian are attempting a massive 186 miles ? a distance greater than any one day in the Tour de France.
Tomorrow they will have to push through the pain barrier as saddle sores, back ache and severe muscle cramps will make tackling the small matter of a further 149 miles excruciatingly painful.
