IBikeRide has asked mountain bikers across the Globe just "What Type of Mountain Bikers we all are".  The results are just staggering;)...The survey will continue to run and I'd be interested to see how it varies if we run it again a year on. I thought I'd post some of the early results.

Type of Mountain Biker

So starting off with the type of riding people are into...

Of the 50 respondent replies so far it is probably no surprise that the majority of us are still riding XC and or in our local woods. This though is also most likely a factor that 74% of those surveyed are between 25 and 44! (yup old1) Still it's also nice to see that despite the growth of trail centres the  XC routes ares still the preference overal.  What's also interesting is that nearly everybody offered up two or three type of riding styles. So of the 50 that replied there was over 150 results taken. So riders are no longer into just one discipline or the other. Downhillers are in to XC as well as freestyle. XC riders also ride trail centres and so on. A good few put down nearly every discipline. The mix is great and nearly every mix exists. I personally hope this continues.

Commitment to mountain biking in terms of how often we ride is impressive. You are all biking freaks and it is official. 70% of us ride at least every weekend and some evenings or more.

As a barometer of your biking mental state we asked some fundamentally and indisputably daft questions. The majority are on your way to financial ruin over buying bikes and kit as well as lacking any focus on your work during the day due to both dreaming and day dreaming about little else. Luckily the results do show that maybe there is some hope amongst a few of us out thereInnocent
Q.3Tell us how you feel about the following statements
Sad but true! Not far off I fear! What am I getting myself into! Nah not me, never me!
When I win the lottery I am going to buy more bikes, bike bits, build a bike room to store my bikes and a workshop as well as buy a large white van! 50% 30% 16% 4%
I go to sleep thinking where shall I bike next! 29% 45% 201% 6%
I wake up thinking where shall I bike next! 16% 47% 29% 8%
I am not an obsessive biking freak with a problem. It's just me, a way of life! 28% 48% 16% 8%
Waking up at 7.00 on the weekends is normal to get to the trail or park and spend maximum daylight hours out there! 42% 28% 22% 8%
I can not afford nice clothes or to go out much as all my money goes on bikes, bike bits, bike DVD's, magazines and bike clothes! 30% 28% 32% 10%

Most of those surveyed are between 18 to 54  and there is a definite strong contingent of us old gits out riding as 74% of us are between 25 and 44. Hopefully the survey will catch more younger riders going forward.
Q.5Please tell us your age
Answer Count
18 to 24 12%
17 and under 8%
45 to 54 6%
35 to 44 40%
25 to 34 34%
55 + 0%

Finally It is no surprise and still a bit sad that the majority of riders are still guys (84%)  although I'm willing to bet the ratio gets far more female riders going forward as we track this. Either way we have to make this sport more accesible to all.

Right the survey is still there so If you have not done it yet and want to do it then please feel free. It is loads of fun.

So what type of Mountain Bike Rider are you?
