Folks, It is that time. Sunday 2nd March at 9.30am iBikeRide
riders will meet at the Lookout Visitors centre entrance (where you buy the permit for £1.50) at Swinley Forest for a good few hours
of sweet singletrack trail riding and no getting LOST at all
Be great to meet up and put some faces to names. Be great to just get out and ride
Here is a _link_ all about the place (maps, permits and directions etc) http://www.gorrick.com/swinley/ and some info below:
Also Weelk has done a good post with maps and stuff http://ibikeride.com/MyBlog/Swinley-forest-map.html
Swinley
Forest is an area of Windsor Forest, owned and managed by The Crown
Estate, comprising of 2600 acres of mainly Scots Pine woodland. It is
located between Bracknell and Bagshot to the west of the A322. Cycling
is permitted on hard tracks and within a specific expert mountain bike
area. The wide variety of trails is suitable for everyone from families
to cross country riders, freeriders and downhillers.
It is a condition of cycling within Swinley Forest that you must hold a cycle permit if over 16 years of age. Children who are under 16 do not require a permit as they are deemed to be their parents or guardians responsibility whilst riding in the Forest. As times are changing, it's now essential to comply with the requirements of English Nature, whose powers are far reaching, by showing that cyclists can act as a responsible cohesive group to enjoy all the benefits Swinley Forest has to offer. When can you ride? The forest is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week with access available from a number of entrances. The car park at The look Out Discovery Centre is open in the summer from 8am to 8pm at which time the entrance barrier is raised but you can leave after this at any time. The Discovery Centre building including Day Permit purchase, toilets and cafe is open every day except Christmas and Boxing Day from 10am to 5pm. Wellington Trek Bike Hire is open at weekends from 10am to 5pm (last hire starts at 3pm) from end of February to end of October plus it is open during the week during school holidays. |

2008-03-0222:31:29 Yeah just want to second that. Dan was an awesome guide and all-round top bloke too. Swinley itself is is a real rabbit warren of trails, and the infrequency of monotonous fireroad sections was very welcome - it's almost solid singletrack. Big thumbs up
2008-03-0217:59:40 Great ride and a massive thanks to Dan who is a great guide and a swift rider. Showed us some very sweet trails. Swinley which I thought great anyways has gone up even more in my estimations. Technical bombholes, corner city, berms.. all fun. Looking forward to riding again. knackered!!!
2008-03-0217:25:56 I'm gutted I couldn't make it. Managed to do 2 (quick) laps at Bedgebury with a couple of the lads from the club.
Phil, I'm racing on the 30th, not the 9th as planned. Just a warm up for Italy

2008-03-0118:30:34 Folks, Spoke to Dan from Swinley Forest Mountain Bike group and he's meeting us at 10.15 by the bottle banks in the car park and will guide us which is ace. I'm easy to reckognise and will do a ride round the car park to catch stragglers and the like. Just look out for the very bald, short stumpy guy on a Specialized Stumpjumper wearing an iBikeRide Top (unless it is freezing!!!) I've emailed you all my mobile (if anyone has not got it then Private message me..I will do a quick check of my email before setting off in the morn).
Don't forget you need to get a £1.50 day permit from inside the visitors centre. I thinks it will be a corker of a day and am quite psyched (especially as I lost a days riding today). See you in the morning.
2008-03-0117:11:01 Was riding down there last weekend 23rd and they are putting in a new mains water pipeline througth the middle of the forest can cause a few problems getting from one side to the other first time i have ever got lost down there in years due to having to find my way around it.
