when riding... skids are handy for getting your bike round corners... sometimes it happens and you cant help it. Its important to know what a skid feels like and how to control and recover from one.

For instance... if you a coming down a trail and you lock up your back wheel and start to lose control... just release the brake, you will imediately gain traction again.

But in general - skids show a lack of control of your bike and ruin trails.

All the time i see muppets trying a jump then locking the brake on to skid to a halt. All this does is rip up the landing for everyone else and shred your tyres.

Just think before you do it!

I agree skidding and or cutties is a good skill to learn for control and can be fun in the right environment, I agree it shouldn't be used to cut up trails or on landing of jumps which is bad technique, not too good for yer tires if done on dry pack

Agree, on trails - dh or dirt jumps, skids ruin them!

Skidding is best down when pulling up outside a pub and going as fast as is humanly possible. Pull a BIG FAT skid as you pull up and then smile, knowing that what you did was neither big nor clever - but just a whole heap of FUN!
