Mountain Bike Guide and Skills Instructor Courses 9 Months ago Karma: 8
Folks,

I am researching for an article on the different skills instructor courses around as well as the different skills clinics like those below:

Instructor Courses:
  • Scottish Mountain Bike Leaders Association

  • OTC Off Road Training Consultancy

  • Any others?

  • Skills Clinics:
  • Bikeskills

  • Cycle Active

  • CTC

  • Any others you know of?

  • If you have any experiences of either and would like to share then be great! Write anything but some pointers to help..

What you were looking to get out of the course and why you went?

How you decided which one to go on and found out about them?

What your experiences? How was it structured?

What you think is missing in this area if anything i.e. what you would like to see?

Are you planning on doing another?

Who are the courses most suited for? What type of riding and what level?

      Any comments?

All is good. either post here or PM me.

i volunteer to be sent on a course as a mystery reviewer.
my bag is packed i can leave now.
i would say is the south of england doesnt appear to be well represented in the skills courses.
          Later
          Buster.

          Hi Dan,

I did a beginnerscourse with Craig Marshall in Paarl here, which was very good, since it covers the basic stuff like correct breaking, snatch wheelies etc.
Heard that Dirtopia, together with Run like a Girl is doing three workshops aimed on the female mountainbiker, see for that info www.runlikeagirl.co.za am seriously considering the two first workshops covering cornering and maintenance of your bike. Am not too interested in the use of a hrm and preparing for a race.

Still am eager to do in approx April the Advanced course of Craig Marshall, see www.mountainbike-school.com where he will cover more the technical stuff of drop offs.

Want to discover the hidden downhiller in me

          Did a course with http://www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk/

Did the course about 18 months ago, with a mate.
We had been riding for about a year and felt doing a course would bring our game on.
The course we did was the advanced one, and it was really quite good.
Rather than teaching us to suck eggs, the thing I got most out out of the day were tips to improve my riding, such as looking further ahead, standing off the bike to get a better balance, doing drop offs and tweaking my bad habits, to be good ones !!

We had picked up some biking tips, during our previous year, but having an intensive days training really brought our skills and confidence on.

The Athertons are also doing bike skills courses in Llandegla.
