bikes on the underground 9 Months ago Karma: 3
now, i know your not supposed to take a pushbike through central london - the rules are quite clear.

But supposing you did accidentally - and got rumbled. Does anyone know what the likely ramifications would be - a fine perhaps, confrontation with transport police... bike confiscation , or just a mild ticking off, then being left alone to enjoy the rest of the journey?

Not sure mate, why don't you be the guinea pig and try it out for us?

I suggest Friday around 17:00 lol

I find it the most ridiculous rule ever. You can take your bike on the underground where it is above ground but when it goes underground you have to get off. I mean as if you were gonna block people from getting out if there was an emergency with your bike. People can take huge buggies on the underground and all sorts of huge luggage but no bikes.

Stupid rule!!!!

Ive made a thread on a london forum ( www.urban75.net/vbulletin )someone on theres bound to know.

http://www.squarewheels.org.uk/bike/LUbikes
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/bicycle-tube-map-0108.pdf

The permitted zone is actually a lot bigger than id thought -theyve given us the entire met,circle,district & hamm. lines - not a bad deal for us west-enders - my cycling universe just expanded

hey, spotted you on that other board

Couldnt get a conclusive answer off them, but heres the relevant posts for anyone else that might be interested;

I've been caught in the past with a bike in "unallowed sections".. they've let me finish my journey after much apologising on my behalf - again, it was not rush-hour and kind of a desperate situation...

.. I guess it would depend entirely on who catches you though...

got caught on the dlr once - i'd thought it would be permitted since they're overground with excellent ccess - you'd think the dlr would permit it if no-one else did - outside rush hour. they told me off, reckoned they could call the cops on me ???, then made me get off the train.

I was at Oxford Circus on a North bound train ...6 pm ...so a BIT busy and the driver announced we were " not moving till the bloke with the bike gets off ! " So we sit and wait , and wait...until there`s abit of shouting outside ( I was stuck middle carriage so couldn`t see much).
Eventually after about 5 mins we headed off...

Think they don`t like it and the fact the bloke had a couple of hundred angry commuters staring at you seems to be worse!
