Mountain Bike Kit Reviews - Body Armour
Written by stumpy_dan

The clever people at Dianese have a whole selection of body armour. On show at the cycle show is their latest baby the Nextwave MTB  and it is worthy of some mention.

The guys I met at Dianese talk about their products with a real enthusiasm and when you try this stuff on you can see why. It comes on it's own or as part of body suits so the choice is yours (check pics out later). Acknowledging the back does not stay in the same shape during different movement on the bike it bends and moulds with the body as it moves. Cool hey! Not being so rigid, hence it is super comfortable. There's much more
It also allows the armour to pivot as you turn and twist through snaking sections. So how does it give the strength to protect you in a fall. Simple it has a honeycomb mesh. Ask any bee (or any physicist) who have known this for millenium that the honeycomb is one of the strongest structures found in nature. it allows breathability (it has holes you see) whilst out on the trails, flexibility and of course maximun  protection.  The mesh is made of aluminium so yes it is light too and thin (but thick enough). Easy to adjust with elastic Velcro held braces you are set to go bombing downhill or hitting the freeride dirt park in seconds.
So if you do have a bad hit you will see pretty much clearly if the mesh has retained it's strength or needs replacing (mesh is see through) so although it can take a lot of knocks if damaged you can see and take action.
It retails for £76.30 which is I guess a price you need to consider and i think reasonable in terms of keeping your back and spine safe.
Here's a load of pics showing this in it's true colours:
Here you can see the Aluminium mesh system close up.
